Hi, I'd like start off and give a personal shout out to Illini420 and The Penny Lady! I met Illini420 there and we hung out and walked around the whole entire time. He is such a nice and smart guy. I can't say enough good things about him. Plus, he has some amazing coins for sale so if you ever want any just ask him what he's selling and I'm sure he'll give you a good deal.

Penny Lady, nice meeting you for my first time. Your 1909s VDB was cool looking and I'm sure people who love penny's will love you, because you know your stuff!

Now, onto the show. I got a 1921-d Mercury Dime NGC in VF30 condition. Krispy, sorry, but NGC and PCGS are the only grading services I'll use now. Sometimes I just have to bend. But that's as low as I'll go, since they are both very good.

It's a gorgeous coin, I paid $340 for it and believe me, every dealer I showed it to was very impressed.

Now, prices here were kinda high overall from the deals I've been spotting out on eBay but it was a hell of a learning experience.

I bought some dollar star notes and a chunk of intercept shield holders EDITED - please no offers to trade/sell.

This overall was a great show. Most the tables were filled, dealers were dealers, some went out of there way to help, others just wanted money. Either way, this is my second coin show and I enjoyed it a lot. I got to take a look at a lot of coins like the 1937-d 3 leg buffalo nickel, 1908 no motto st gaudens, I saw my silver 100 oz bullion(OMG so beautiful but smaller than i imagined), and yeah, a lot more left to be desired.

I plan on hitting up the show in long beach and I'm a happy and more informed man after going to this show. Oh, and I did get a coin piece. It's a bausch and lomb 5x :)

Hope this experience post helps and yeah, the show was a great learning experience. For those new, definitely go to coin shows even if you don't buy. They are great to soak up knowledge and experience under your belt.

Glad you were able to meet Mike and Charmy, both quality people from CT.

My Glendale show was a real slow day. I am buried in between about 30 sportscard tables, only 3 of us coin dealers. I'm going to call today my last Glendale show and instead put my resources other places. If I skip this show 8 times a year, I can do another out of stater.

Didn't sell much, a cpl really nice rainbow Lincolns, but I did take in some real nice type coins on a 1914-D Lincoln trade. Glad to expand my non copper offerings so I was pleased, so was the gentleman with a new 1914-D, he said it was his last needed to complete his Dansco.

Any other show reports out there?

    Nice report :D

Was a fun show and was nice to meet up with the CoinTalk folks. ThePennyLady showed off a few of her ANA purchases and that was really fun!!

I was able to sell a couple of coins I brought along and was able to pick up a nice looking 1934 PCGS MS64 Walker from McIntosh Collectibles. So that worked out for me.

It was nice to meet up with BNBAnalytics and he definitely did get a smoking deal on the 1921-D Merc Dime... it was very nice for the grade and had wonderful eye appeal. I don't even really like Merc Dimes that much or collect them, but if he passed on that coin I was seriously thinking of grabbing it up!!!

That IS a nice Merc. Seems those dates are tough, everybody has several in g-F , me included, but those higher grades are the toughies. Nice pick up.

BNB: :kewl: Glad you had a great time and that's a great place to learn and buy, safer than eBay for sure, esp. for a beginner. However, you mentioned me in your report for some reason regarding TPGs which I cannot be attributed to. Don't know whom you meant, but it wasn't me. Just pointing out that I did not make a comment to you regarding any positives or negatives about those or other TPGs. With this opportunity, you should not overlook ANACS. There aren't really others, though some may use/buy ICG grades. But you will learn here to always buy the coin not the slab.:eek:hya: Good luck out there and do have fun.

nice merc BNB. Hope you liked the show. I missed out last show here in SLC. Maybe the next one.

BTW, planning a trip to Omaha in November to see family. Any suggestions on a couple of good dealers to stop and visit and help stimulate the Nebraska economy.

Nice purchase, glad you're happy with it. Since you had such a good time at the show mabe you'll recondsider the hobby of coin collecting, and start leaning more toward actually becoming a collector.

Tell me did you or did you not feel as though you were holding history in your hand? Did you wonder at all about where that coin had been, who had owned it, and what it could tell you if it could only talk?

BNB, it was very nice meeting and talking with you today - it's always great seeing the excitement and inquisitiveness in a new collector's eyes. And Mike, I'm always glad you stop by my table when you get to one of my shows, I enjoy chatting with you and finding what newps you picked up. And Mr. Organic stopped by as well, he's a really nice young man, very coin savvy, and also fun to catch up with.

As far as the show goes, it was pretty slow sales-wise, though I seemed to be busy since several of my regulars stopped by for nice chats and a new collector whom I met during one of the ANA tours when they stopped by my table to "interview" me also stopped by and had a lot of questions about where to begin collecting. I bought a couple coins, but nothing to brag about, just nice decent Indian cents, and a decent (though very heavy) half bag of wheaties that I needed like a hold in the head but the price was right!

One of my favorite variety collector customers also spent time going through some of my coins looking for more overdates and other varieties. He even noticed that my 1886 T-1 clamshell has a repunched 6 (S-1), which was an added treat since this is one of my favorite coins in my collection. Here's a photo, even though the repunched 6 is hard to see, it is pretty clear with a loupe. There's an extra part of an extra 6 inside the loop of the 6. :high5:

Todd had given my last group of coins that he photographed for me to Peter McIntosh to bring to me (they live close to each other up in the Sacramento area), so I was happy to be reunited with my newps, especially my 1877 and 1914-D which I posted earlier. Plus, I got to show off these beauties to several of my customers, which meant I could get more oooohs and awwwes and this sure helps make even a slow show much the better! :D

Then around 2pm, we popped (well, pulled) the cork on the bottle of wine I brought and my partner Rich and I and another dealer and good customer all had a welcomed glass (well, red plastic cup) of wine to help pass the afternoon. :goofer:

One good thing about this show is that they serve very yummy and reasonable homemade breakfast and lunch, which is a nice treat to have at a coin show. :eat:

Tomorrow, my son Troy will help me out, even though I don't expect it to pick up much, but he will be a big help when it comes time to pack up everything and load it all into my car, then unload it at home! Kiss

Well, that's about it, better get to bed so I can be fresh and alert so when they open the doors tomorrow and all those crowds come pushing and shoving their way into the show and fall all over each other just trying to get to my table! Whawhoooooo! Have a good night all.......

Thanks for the report, and congrats on the dime purchase! That's a good looking coin!

I wish I had the opportunity to meet you folks in person, unfortunately we reside on opposite coasts!

Just one more reason to move to Illinois. Yes you can not beat a coin show for many reasons. Naturally one is to really meet people in person. But the learning experiences just can not be compared with to just looking on the internet. We presently have 4 coin shows within 15 miles of my house every Month, all year long and even on Holidays. Most are Sunday only but occationally one goes for two days. Then too we have those much larger ones like those 3day shows usually at the Rosemont Convention Center although that last one was moved out to a suburb. Our usual ones are free admittance and free parking. As a general rule most dealers are from within a few states away so you get to know them well if you go frequently.

I felt I was holding history in my hand. The level of excitement and joy that I felt inside were at great levels when holding this 1921-d merc.

I for a second thought where the design was inspired from but not where it had been.

I didn't think about who owned it. All good questions.

If it could only talk, it would say, "Thanks for picking me, BNB!" :thumb:
