I've seen this coin before . I like this one, especially the erupting Volcano in the Background . I'll guess MS-64 .
The options are all the way from north to south, and it's more the why of the south I'm wondering about. With the face details appearing to be largely lacking and "whisps" of other subtle wear, going with 55-58.
Minus factor: soft strike on the face and head, as noted by @Mac McDonald. That, and maybe the fact it isn’t a peso, but that doesn’t bother me. It’s the second-largest denomination. Plus factor: ample, bright cartwheel luster which gives it the appearance of a higher grade coin and contributes to its high eye appeal.
I think a plus grade would have been in order. I’d rather have great luster with some contact marks versus a dipped out coin with fewer contact marks.
I put in MS-63. Beautiful coin. Been meaning to get another Peso sometime soon, most likely raw, can't afford the gems quite yet.
Yes. They were 90% until the crisis of 1907, and 75% until 1945. US Philippine coins were exchangeable for US coinage at a fixed rate of 1 peso: 50 cents. The ASW works out to be about equal at that rate. https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide...os-km-165-1903-1906-cuid-1085602-duid-1518803
