Is this 1996 $20.00 Federal Reserve Note worth anything more than face value? It is in crisp AU condition with serial number AL00002795*. Should I spend it or try and sell the note. Picture is attached. Thanks, Richard
Short answer is yes, it is worth a decent premium. The trick is meeting the person willing to pay that premium, but for a low serial number like that, it shouldn't be too hard at all. A dealer would pay a premium, but nothing like what the private collector would pay him. Definitely keep it and feel free to post it via cointalk if you are looking to sell it.
I will post this star note. I just have to figure out how it is done. I would like to thank you for your response to this Post. Would $80.00/make offer be a fair price to start the bidding?
Yes, that's too much. Although a fairly low serial number, it does have a high run of 2.5 mill. http://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars/20.php#1996
I think you are aiming a bit high. Realistically, it is a fairly recent date, with a modest value over face. Do some research on past auctions on such notes. Knowledge is your best asset.
Star $20 FRN Thanks to all of you for your guidance. At least now I have an idea of a ball park figure to sell the note for. Regards, Richard
with the hard centerfold I will say it may not go beyond an XF in grade... The value of this note in that range is $25-$30 with the hard centerfold I will say it may not go beyond an XF in grade... The value of this note in that range is $25-$30...for a guy who collects San Fran Stars maybe a little higher but not much. RickieB
I like the note, although the first thing I saw, that stood out was that one fold. I would agree that it isn't much a premium to the face value, and I would suggest maybe keeping it for the long haul? Who knows, maybe in a few years the demand could go up?
