I was going through my' coins tonight to get ready for the Coin Show in dalton, GA and came across a true mystery coin! I found that I have a really nice BU Red 1984-D "DDO-001" Lincoln Cent which I am almost certain is a MDS (Mid Die Stage) specimen since it virtually does not have any of the LDS Die Markers. What is really intriguing is that the coin clearly has an "D/D" RPM to the East. I know that one of the Die Markers for the DDO-001 in the LDS specimens is a Machine Doubled "D" with the secondary image to the North. However, this coin does not show the Machine Doubling but actually has a secondary vertical bar just to the East of the primary vertical bar in the "D" and also has bulging to the East of the loop which is apparently the remains of the llop of the secondary "D". Although the coin is clearly a DDO-001, I believe that this a completely new Variety variation from the same Master Die due to the RPM. I will do my best to get some pictures up of the coin and I am sure that Chuck would like to see this one.

1984-D/D Lincoln Cent DDO-001 and RPM Pics!

Here are the pictures of the Date and the Mintmark! If needed, I can try to post some additional pictures later.

That is interesting. I'd like to see some different pictures from other angles of the mint mark to show the secondary vertical bar clearer if you can. Thanks

I would like to see a better picture of the D perhaps at different angles. It looks more like machine doubling on the D from the picture provided but a better picture might make whatever this is more clear.

There are many different doubled dies on coins in the mid 80s. When I look at the crossbar on the 4, it almost looks like it could be tripled. Don't base this on the 1984 D DDO, as it could be something altogether different and still be something new:)

    Thanks,
    Bill

I am working tonight and will be at the Coin Show in Dalton, GA most of the day tomorrow. I will try to get some new and better pics Saturday or Sunday and post them. Whoops, I just remembered that I packed the coin up for the Coin Show! I will have to remember to take it out of the box tonight when I get home...otherwise it may be gone. I plan on selling practically every coin that I have. That includes all of my error, variety and normal coins...many of which are high grade. I am doing a complete restart (reset) on my coin collecting! If I sell all of them, I am not sure if I will purchase anything at the Coin Show or not. I am not even sure that I will even continue coin collecting or not but I do plan on investing in something that will do me good when the economy finally goes down the toliet. On a rough estimate, my' meager collection is probably worth better than $6,000 and probably closer to $8,000 (but I may be way off) and I hope to get at least $3,000 for everything but may shoot for more. Heck, my' collection of BU and a few circulated Cent rolls (many of which I haven't even had time to search) should be worth more than $1,000 alone! Anybody have any ideas on what i should do or invest in??? I am open to suggestions!

    More Pics!

I was able to get my' coins packed up a little early and had a little time before I leave for Dalton, so i took some more pictures of the coin. I hope these better show what I am talking about!

Although they were requested, I guess that no one wants to give comments or opinions on the additional pictures! Oh well, it doesn't really matter since the coin was sold with the rest of my' Collection and inventory. Although I have much post regret for selling my' coins, the Coin Show went fairly well! I spent much of the day at the SEGS tables talking with Larry Briggs and even gave some opinions on some Error and Variety coins. Met and spent quite a bit of time conversing with Ash Harrison and Brian Raines talking about VAM's, other Varieties of coins and the future of Vamming and VamWorld. Spoke with Bill Fivaz and quite a few other notable Experts on Variety and Error coins as well. I learned a lot, saw some amazing transactions go down and even learned the diagnostics for determining the Date of some certain early coinage when the Date has been totally worn away. I even got to see and hold a well worn but nice Double Struck 1797 Draped Bust Large Cent. I was even given a very low (and I mean really low) price on the coin, if I wanted to purchase it but declined the offer. Probably a very bad decision in after thought but I need to rethink my collecting strategies! I am still unsure as to whether I want to ever make coin purchases again or if precious metals is the route that I want to take.

As you may already know this site wasn't working for awhile. So maybe that's why the response's aren't rushing in like usual. As for the coin I'm not experienced enough to tell from the pictures if it's a RPM. Glad you had a great time at the show.
