I collect French coins from 700 to 1900, and my collection is in part an adjunct to my interest in history.
Some years ago, I was very pleased to aquire this in England for £5. Many will throw their hands up in horror, and they should go away now. A non-defaced example would probably cost around £500 nowadays.
I would like to think the coin came to England with a returning Peninsular War soldier, who had 'Old Boney' obliterated, a fine engraving done in his stead, and then had it mounted as a brooch.
I would be interested if it has any other admirers, and to see other similar 'coins' that the folks here treasure.

Yes. That was a brooch. Nice!

I have an interest in Eclectic coins.
Here is a Love Token Seated Dime. I don't know the story behind it. But it was given to me as a gift from a recently departed cousin..

That's a neat love token. I have had several nice "trench art" pieces done on French francs and 2-franc pieces (of the Semeuse/"Sower" type), but they were all of course associated with WW1 rather than the Napoleonic era.

@SensibleSal66 - here's the top-population example for the type. The only one certified by PCGS. :)

I agree- it's a wonderful design. There were earlier coins with the same motif, but I thought this 2011 bimetallic was quite interesting.

PS- I'll bet I can guess who you got yours from. Mostly likely the same person mine came from (pre-slab). ;)

@John Scholefield - "Eclectic" is literally the name of my collection. :)

(All too many people read that word wrong and think it says "electric". How shocking. Haha.)

Click here if you would like to view my "Eclectic Box" collection, though be forewarned that the target site is very slow to load initially.

I am midway through the process of migrating it over to a new, better site, which offers more features and does not have that issue.
