I have not seen these until today on Ebay I don't collect to much and nothing outside the USA but these looked cool, are they of any value and is 2004 the only year they were minted?
I bought one for fun a couple of years ago. I think I paid about $10. Very delicate coin. I think is is silver plated. Very small, notice it fits in a 2X2 flip.
My only somalia coin is a copper nickel showing the Titanic going down. A ripoff of another coin I have seen with the exact overse. Traci
I could be wrong about the year, but only one year has actual silver content. It could be the 2004. It's only one of the guitars though so be careful if you want to buy one. The majority are only silver plated and therefore a ripoff in my mind. I was gonna get one, but then I realized only one of them was actually silver and it was expensive or more money than I wanted to pay. I could be wrong but I think it's the red one on the left. happy pickin' Which reminds me, there's a guy on ebay selling picks made out of silver quarters, wish I would have thought of that idea.
No offence but they are gawd awful They dont look like coins to me...is the denomination on the other side?
Those guitar coins are not for me.. Iam pretty open minded but not interested in these.. If you like them go for it...
This was a trivia question today on Jeopardy. They actually had a whole column on coins today. Not that I watch the show regularly, but it just happened to be on when I got home from work.
Yes. Here is an image of the pink one with the other side shown at the bottom: http://www.blackmountaincoins.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/2004_SOM_00180a.jpg Are they coins? Umm, yes - in the sense that some major dealer/distributor had a contract, with whoever represented or claimed to represent the government of Somalia at that time, about producing and selling those "legal tender" pieces. Such collector items would not be in circulation in any country, I suppose. And certainly not in a place like Somalia ... Christian
I found them very unusual for circulation, but it's cool for fun. But they look more like gadgets than coins..
