I am sitting here looking at a slabbed '21 and '23. Both at MS62. Amazing difference in details due to strike (in favor of the '23). Yours looks very nice:hail:.
I give it the grade of Ms-63. The strike is not full but average to slightly above average. I was worried about luster but the last pics help out. Price 275-375 IMO. Nice type coin.
i did take it to a coin dealer and he said he never seen one that nice with the strike. Not to belabor the point, but the dealer (including his "30 years of experience") was either trying to be flattering, or didn’t know anything about Peace dollars. If you will checkout the book mentioned above, you will likely understand better. Re: Grading 1921s. The “grading” services do not routinely consider strike/detail on 1921 Peace dollars. It is not unusual for a well-struck coin to sell for the same price as an average flatly struck piece.
It does appear to be a very weak strike on the obverse with a noticebly stronger strike on the reverse. It is difficult to determine an MS grade without seeing the coin in hand but it does as others have noted appear to at least be in the MS range.
I kind of read that statement the other way that the dealer had not seen one that nice with that weak of a strike. i.e. weaker than your average weak strike.
From the photos, it sure looks MS from here, but I'm no expert! It does appear to have a better than average strike for the issue, congratulations! Mine is struck flat as a pancake:
The OP coin looks kind of overdipped to me. I'm not really seeing the luster, and it looks really white. Provided it is problem free, I would guestimate MS-63
the coin has alot of luster, i had to trun the light up on my cameria. need to buy a new one just for coins.
Here's a 1921 graded NGC MS63, above average strike, the coin has good luster which doesn't show up in these pics:
