Dang, that's a sweet coin, I'm torn between AU55 and AU58, there's just a few too many little marks that detract from the value for me to go full 58 but it's close.
I jumped on the AU55 bandwagon. Didn't know I was jumping on a bandwagon at the time, but after voting, I see I am with the majority so far. 58 wouldn't surprise me either. Very handsome coin.
This coin is a tough one, IMO. Obverse: The wear on the wreath is an issue (vein definition), the wear on the ribbon tails and neck and cheek marks. Reverse: The wear on the part of the legs, lower and upper areas of both wings precludes a 58. AU55 is my vote. Also, there is the appearance of a weak strike on the obverse, IMO.
I'll start by saying- beautiful coin! I think this is MS63+, but voted MS64. There are certainly a few scattered bag marks, but nothing distracting and relatively clean fields and devices. The reverse is - I think - better than the obverse; key detail is the eagle's eye and layered feathers. Yes; the top right corner of the shield shows some wear, but this is the most common spot to have a softer strike and to show that obvious wear. As I'm reviewing photos, starting to second guess myself, but I'm convinced the majority of those marks I'm seeing are on the NGC plastic and not the silver. I'll close by saying- beautiful coin!
AU 55 ....shows wear and the luster is muted enough to prevent a 58 (although it could be the photo).....the color is nice....solid coin overall!
