Central America, Greenland, Egypt, and Great Britain type coins

Some may have noticed that I have been buying the coins of Greenland & the coins of Central America. This weekend, I walked into a really small coin show and found nice examples from both countries! There were only six dealers at the show & I made these purchases with two of them.

1829 Republic of Central America 8 Real (in EF with some scratch damage)
1926 Greenland 50 Ore (in Gem BU)
1939 Egypt 5 Piastres (in BU)
1806 Great Britain 1 Penny (in ???)

The Penny is slated for a Great Britain Penny Type Set that I have been assembling. I bought it from a reputable & knowledgeable guy so I’d bet a penny that it is authentic. It appears to have some planchet flaw or die problems at the date area. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that someone had “touched-up” the afflicted area. Please tell me what you grade this coin.

I have just discovered that if I make the photo file size about 150k then it will enlarge for you when you click on it. I will re-post the photos now. Does this mean that CT made my photos 5K because their size was too big when I originally posted them?

I love the central american coin, my favorite of the lot...I have a GIII in exactly the same condition...love that prortrait...and stiff as a board Farouk portraits are always cool.

Thank you Traci. The 8 Reales has some nice detail. I am still trying to get the photographs to display larger on CT. This photo is about 210k but I think you still need to click on it to see it larger. Perhaps there is a new CT thread that I missed describing posting photos. I'll keep trying.

 

Great coins. The Central America is especially attractive.

 

I really like the Greenland 50 Ore .... the polar bear obverse is great amd the reverse depicts a wonderful crowned coat of arms!

Last night, I was experimenting with posting photos and have found that I must have a file size that is less than 249.9k or else CT may seriously compress the photo. With all my photos now compressed to below 249.9k I have now set the photo size to 5” x 5” and we will see what size they get posted here. I will limit the # of photos to less than 5 photos per post & see what the resulting CT pictures look like. Thanks for putting up with my little experiment.

These photos depict my Great Britain Penny type set as it has come along so far. These Penny type coins are 1800 to date (post-steam press). I need a couple more to complete the set. If you have one of them, please post it here.

Is it my eye's or is there something wrong with the date on the 1806, the last couple of digits seem to have been alterd or are very worn? Other than that a lovely set of coins

 

I bought it from a reputable & knowledgeable guy so I'm confident that it is authentic. It appears to have some planchet flaw or die problems at the date area. (I'm leaning toward planchet flaw -struck on defective planchet). The color of the planchet is slightly more brown color right along the bottom where the defect is located. That being said, there could also be some post mint damage or cleaning that is being camouflaged by the brown color.

 

Well, I have one from the Baliwick of Jersey that is 1/24th of a shilling and 1 penny I think you missed. Traci :thumb:

 

Of course, the dates are on the other side of coins. The date on my young Victoria is 1892.
