1974 penny i have been able to find a variety list for it but I think this is a ddo.....just to the north of liberty and us in trust are In IGWT are the high points i see in the doubling 74 in the date
Not sure if I understand this completely correctly, but there was a large and small date for 1974 and if you are referring to extra thickness it could be a large date. Reverse could help identify. I can't tell if this CopperCoins listing is an actual doubled die or if it is just a note for anyone who finds a 1974 cent with "extra thickness." http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/diestate.php?date=1974&die_id=1974d1do002&die_state=mds
1974 is a difficult year to pinpoint a DDO. Class of doubling can be confused with the Type 1 ODV. For that reason, I don't look for DDOs for this date.
Neither the large or small date varieties are hard the master die was switched mid-year so neither is rare. Each variety can be found from circulation. The small dates seem to be slightly less common than the large dates. The large and small dates do not differ significantly from each other.
What made me really start looking close was behind the 4 hard you can see it in the 4 and the US in trust and In
If its not a ddo it sure has alot of characteristics of one......might have to take a chance on this one.....
Ok let me see if I can get them picture perfect lol.... Do u think that when I'm croping them up to close and that why its blurry..... I have a 48 mp Marco camera will see if that will make it better
Thanks Bradford! These are better. Two things I am looking at on your coin relative to the pictures at Wexler's site. The G and the O. Look closely at the DDO pictures and compare them to yours. The G is perhaps the more obvious letter difference. Trace the inner shape of the G in the photo and then on your coin. They are different. The shape of the O on your coin (as with the G), look correct. But the O in the photo for the listing has a shape, kind of like a face; wider at the top and narrower at the bottom (e.g., the jawline). I don't see the dominant scratch by the G either. Have another look at your coin, as having it in hand, may reveal something the photo isn't capturing. Good luck!!
