Personally I go for the mint issued ones but if you are into the slabbed MS 70's go for it. They may be a hot item in a few years, being sold out with the exception of the United States Mint Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Set being released in October.
All I'm worried about and really need to know is if I do buy it that I can get my $$$ back out of it in a few years if I decided to sell it I hate buying anything and only being able to get pennies on the dollars I spent
You wont get pennies back, I can't say for sure that you will get the full price you paid back. I had a 1992 MS 70 Kennedy that I paid $60 for and it sold for $20, however the Lincoln has a much lower mintage.......
maybe I should just wait to buy one when the prices drop? hope this isn't like the speared buffalo snafu I made I could have bought a ms66 speared buffalo for $180 now they go for 10-11x that... and I saw a ms67 sell for $422 back in that same search in 2005...wonder what those are worth!
The mint issue price for non proof Lincoln dollar was about $34. Slabbing fees, postage and insurance to and from NGC have to be at least $30-35 maybe more. I don't think its that bad of a deal. Check ebay to see what similar coins have sold for.
Hey alexn2coins2004, where did you do that search for the speared bison nickels? Oh, by the way, ms67 examples are now worth $5000!
It's a tough call. If all you want is the coin then one purchased from the mint will look exactly the same and most likely you would have a difficult time telling the difference between the graded one and the purchased one. My bet is there is little room for the RAW one to go down in value vs. the 70 could have much bigger swings in either direction and most 70's in the last couple of years have done nothing but go down in value over time as there are many many more than a few years ago.
I think you'll be safe with this coin. However, nobody can guarantee you 100% that you'll be able to "get my $$$ back". There is really no way you can know the answer to that.
I don't think $95 is a bad deal for a "perfect coin". My only problem is the fact that they are giving a lot more MS70's out than they used to. I hope the coins are just that much better, not the grading standards slipping.
If the coin appeals to you I think it is not a bad deal. Iam not personally into buying slabs .. But if you are go for it...
Many have told you Alex, you like it you buy it. Personally I buy issues based on that premise and that alone. If I had to worry about price appreciation down the road I'd truely go mad. Collecting and speculating are not one and the same....
I disagree I this you CAN be a dealer and a collector just have to learn to keep it all seperate some people can't do it though
More power to you old friend but that's not what's in me. Just a personal quirk....and nothing pointed at you.
