There are many digs, scratches, much wear on this Morgan silver dollar. I grade this coin EF40 or EF45 at best. I know pictures shouldn't be used to grade by but here they are for your opnions, please. Should I get it graded and slabbed. I dare not go by ebay as a reference so I'm depending on you CT members.
I think it is in fair shape, and the fact it is a CC anything these days always means money. If it was mine and I could afford it, I would get it slabbed. Very cool coin! Worth at least $800-$1200! Worth slabbing! I think it is VF20 or VF25 though. It is worn through on the eagle's breast. and the hair line is not complete.
At VF20/25 I think that anything above $800 would be dreaming. I kinda like this coin though. Thanks for your reply so quickly. I also believe as you do that it should probably be slabbed. That gives it authenticity thereby mayby top price in grade. There doesn't seem to be any scarcity to them, though. Is there any outside chance it could earn a EF grade in your opinion?
The Whitman Red Book has it at $600 @VF20 and that book is conservative. I really think it is worth at least $800. Only because of the "CC" MM.

What a coin is worth and what a buyer is willing to pay for an item, is two different things! I believe that the coin is a solid VF-25 but may grade at VF-30. However, the lack of any Mint Luster does hurt it! Based on previous sales on eBay, I would expect the coin to fetch between $500 and $600 on a good day but may only fetch $400 to $500 on a bad day! If you are not too much into the coin, it would be good to have it certified and graded by PCGS and then hold onto the coin until the coin market recovers. Frank
I agree with the grade and $500-$600 estimated value. But if you don't care about keeping it, I'd sell it. I believe that, unless the economy recovers fairly quickly (and I don't think it will), prices for many coins are just as likely to soften as they are to strengthen in the foreseeable future.
