Just curious. Any way to block out or not see the threads posted by ads?
I would like to read actual posts versus "buy this coin" spam.

    Thanks!

Hey Tom , Are you talking about the banner adds or threads that are posted to attract potential buyers ?

Other than the auction and coin sales sections I can't recall a single ad within a regular "thread". I suspect it would get deleted pretty quickly anyway.

I also suspect, no pretty much know, this website is not inexpensive to keep up and running and the bandwidth usage per day must be astounding so if Peter wants/needs to sell advertising I say go for it. I have not noticed the banner ads to be obnoxious or overwhelming.

I always thought it was sort of not the place for advertisements on coin forum web sites. However, that would be an interesting thing for someone to figure out how to do. Make an add for something that does not appear to be an add but is intended to make someone purchase something they see in that post. :smile

It's done all the time in gorilla advertising
There are also applications of subliminal messaging and advertising that do what you seem to be talking about.

I haven't seen any consecutive blocks or page after page of ads by the same person.

Do you mean the ad that is visible under the first post in each thread ? If so, that is an ad space that is purchased by whoever wants to pay for it.

Is there a way to block it ? Not that I know of.

Not sure how relevant this is to you guys, but a while back some Tech savvy art folks were working on a FireFox widget/plug-in that swaps images of art and architecture with the Ads you encounter on pages, hopefully for something less intrusive marketing-wise and perhaps for something more pleasant to the eye, spirit and psyche during one's online browsing experience, have a look at Add-Art.
