Has anybody noticed that the auction traffic has increased exponentially over the last few months. I also noticed that the traffic tends to be in the trendy items, morgans, ASE's, walking halves and standing quarters.

Am I just imagining this or has it actually increased, especially from sellers that or normally selling other items, or newer sellers?

Funny you should mention this! I look at every Mercury dime listed on ebay, every day. I have noticed in the past few months the total number of listings has dropped from an average of 4400 to 3700-3900. Most of my "favorite sellers" are listing less and less. I guess it just depends on what is "HOT".

Which auction's are you talking about? Just coin auctions I imagine. But are you refering to online only? or others? and which online auctions if other than eBay?

I have noticed a lot of drag in the past 6 weeks on eBay. Although, I say this broadly, not just coins auctions.

I watched a show on ebay recently. They talked about why they raised their fee structure. They do an unbelievable amount of analysis. They know how much is listed, selling, not selling, every second they want to check. They determined that a lot of stuff people were selling was sitting in ebay stores and not on the auction side. So they raised fees on sellers for using their ebay stores to try to prompt them to move stuff out of the stores, over to the auction side where a higher percentage of stuff was selling. That could be one reason behind it.

They said ebay rakes in $80k a minute these days.

it would be interesting to see some of their data on the effects that this recession is having on auctions and how its reflective of factors outside eBay. doubt it has little to do with which form, auction or stores, stuff is listed in.

I was speaking of the coin autions and more specifically the dollar coins in the more available models, Morgan and Peace. Also the silver bullion on weekends is loaded up with 09 ASE's. Taking a look at the ASE's sold by the roll. You can buy one every 10 to 20 minutes on Sat or Sun, sometimes less. Some of the sellers are selling a monster box or more a day by the tube. I did also notice that the price on the raw Morgans and Peace seems to have dropped a little on there, especially the lower end and common dates. As usual nice product gets good money.

Have you noticed the fake morgans being sold on ebay by the Chinese & also Americans , this is disgusting & really turns me off with ebay who will do any thing for the almighty dollar, & believe me ebays owners are not stupid , all their income is kept in OFFSHORE BANKS, go figure!!! : (

Are you talking about the ones that are sold as a replica or the counterfeits that show up? I wonder how often the sellers know they are counterfeits? I'm also sure there are some unscrupulous sellers in the lot.

It's too bad people knowingly sell fakes. It affects the selling prices acrossed the board on many series. People are going to pay less many times, as the risk of buying fakes increases. It is driving the honest sellers out of ebay, and increasing the percentage of fakes even more. I buy very little in coins on ebay these days, as ebay seems to do little to fix this problem.

:thumb:I have sold lots of Lincoln Cent LP1 and LP2. The LP1 are still hot ,The LP2 prices have taken a nose dive. There are some sellers out there that are putting boxes of the LP2 that are worth 50-60 dollars and selling them for 25 dollars. I dont think they know what they have and are just dumping them due to the LP3 cent that has come out.
