Me too, I like German States coins...true coin craftsmanship. As usual its a shame to see its ben locked away but its a nice example. I have a similar coin but its a 3 Mark. can be found here along with information about Wilhelm, the last King of Wurttemberg: http://www.cachecoins.org/wurttemberg.htm
After my own heart!!! Tho I am a dealer in US and world coins. I find myself having more and more trouble selling my German states pieces. Not because people don't want them... It's because I like them too much.
Prussia 5 Mark Friedrich III - NGC MS-65 I have had this one for 2 years. Been trying to sell/trade it with no success. I agree that these are beauties.
I understand what your saying Matt. I have three NGC MS-65 Wurttemberg 1911 commemoratives that I will never part with. Keep your eyes open for the coin I've posted here. There are two varieties of this coin. Most dealers do not know of it. One is the High Bar H, and the other is the Low Bar H. The H is in the name of CHARLOTTE. I almost bought a High Bar H from a well known World Coin dealer that did not relize he had a very sought after coin with a mintage of 7,000 known. The coin brings a price of $3,000 in MS64. I let him know what he had, as I can not take advantage of someones mistake. The in the photo is NGC MS-65 Low Bar H.
Nice piece! If anybody wants to see the other (rare) variety, here is one: http://www.muenzauktion.com/ritter/item.php5?id=27822 Guess that, over here in DE, chances of getting the "wrong" one by accident are extremely slim and coin catalogs do show both types. But as a dealer I would sure appreciate having a great customer like you. Christian
