I'm looking at 1901 Russian 20 Kopeks at the moment. My LCS does not have one right now. There's a few online but right now I'm looking at this one. It's 90.00 but I could make an offer. Not sure yet. There is a small scratch on the reverse that the seller is upfront about. I avoid problem coins but I don't see it as a problem really. It's really that that is holding me up on this coin. How do I feel about the scratch? Also...these can get real nice eye appeal in AU. Tone can really make these pop. I'll pay more for one....if I fall for it. I guess I will know when I know!

What are you looking for at the moment? Post a pic and tell us how your hunt is going. We don't talk about cost much...but go ahead it interesting info as well. If your comfortable anyhow. s-l400-7.jpg s-l400-6.jpg

I've had my eye on one of these guys for awhile now. One of my collecting interests is pre-decimal coinage of the UK (and, by extension, Ireland). I haven't been able to bring myself to drop $30-40 on it as my collecting budget is extremely modest right now. It's a handsome piece though.

I've also taken an interest in Mexican silver coins. Just this morning I purchased (eBay) a 1967 silver peso...one of the 10%'ers. I am working on a full date set of these because they're cheap, a short set, and I find them most interesting despite their negligible Ag content. This will leave the 65 as the last one I need; these two dates seem to be the "toughest" in that while my dealer practically gives these away, I've never seen a 65 or 67. In nice shape, they really are an attractive coin.

Yes in the early days Banks use to transport specie in the form of US Bust Halves since dollars were not minted for circulation since 1803. Still over 1,800 Bust Halves is a lot of coins: nearly $1,000 face. Where did you get them all?

You've misunderstand my Midwestern sentence structure. I am currently looking at year 1810 bust halves. I took forever on 1812 and now appears I am going to take forever on 1810. I looked at 2 today...a F and a VF. Left them both there and bought a 1822. LOL.

A shinier example of a Philippines 1 Peso (preferably 1908). I've been looking up major volcanic events lately and this coin features an erupting volcano. :)

Are there any Indonesian coins by any chance that feature volcanoes?
Also, anything affordable I can get from 1815/1816? (Tambora was 1815 :p)

Okay, now I understand. You were looking @ two or more Bust halves both dated 1812. A very historic year and important for that reason as well as being an early issue piece. I don't have anything near that, my closest is an 1808 & an 1819.

Currently I'm looking for the Capped Bust dollar. These are a bit rare and unless damaged or lower than vf, get somewhat expensive. I'd prefer to have an unc tho, but in this overpriced market have to be careful not to overspend.

I don't know about Indonesian coins but Chile made silver volcano pesos from 1817 to 1834. On a cell phone so I can't upload a pix now. The only readily common date is 1817. They feature a large erupting volcano as the main design.

Their gold coinage features two volcanos side by side. Those were made 1818 - 1834 for regular issue. I have an 1819 & an 1834 & I think a die trial dated 1836.

For world coins: I'm always looking for nice VF+ crown size silver coins. Right now, that involves a decent 1938 Cuba Peso that's at one of my preferred dealers. I just need an excuse to go to the shop.

For US coins: As a category/group, I'm generally thinking about nice 1917-1924 VF/EF standing liberty quarters with strong dates and original surfaces.

Silver crown-sized coins and the SLQs are a large part of my long term hold collection, so....
