the "accented hair" variety is found only in proofs.

here's the site I used to determine whether I had one or not (turns out, I do)
    http://www.ipotad.com/pages/ah2.html

    hope that helps.

If not, I'll try to take pictures of mine.

The accented hair variety is a very interesting and unique coin I hope to purchase in the near future. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this one year thing? I had heard that the hair was accented per Jackie-O's request. Of course, I could have dremt that I was told this!!!

There is a character named Russ on the PCGS board that is the self-proclaimed Accented Hair King who may be able to help you, as he is an AH expert.

    accented hair

The accented hair was the original image and was changed as I understand by Jackie kennedy per her preference .. there are other difference as I read on this first ... the I in liberty is different than other image and the FG on reverse is elongated as compared to the "normal" image ...

    best info I have

Thanks for the info clay. I have a fascination with half dollars, yet I do not have this particular variation yet. Time to learn and purchase it finally!

You may be better off cherrypicking a proof set.
you'd at least get it cheaper that way.

Or, another option, buy the entire proof set - with the variety attributed on Ebay - you may get it a good deal on it.

    :)

I love my fellow cointalkers, I had always wondered about this too. I have a sealed 1964 Mint Set... never opened wonder if I should look and see if I got one of these? Im torn on whether to open it or not.

But I just wanted to say thanks for posting that article.

    no problem :)

and you said "mint set" - it has to be a Proof Set.
    big difference.

if you did mean proof though, then open it.
The coins won't be worth more if you don't know what's inside :D

Plus, unopened one's aren't really worth a premuim, as far as I know - maybe a tad.
