This medal and chevron and ribbon were in a small jewelry box together.The ribbon looks to have been attached to the chevron at one time. No dates found
That's a nice find @Dialupsux; it would be a medal from the Second Boer War. Regardless, it seems that an example sold for £125.00 ($172.75) quite recently.
