Can an AU note with a slight bend obtain an unc grade after being held straight for many years in a slab?

    Noost...

It is my understanding that once a bend is in the fibers of the Paper, it is there always. That is of course if you do not try to press it, or alter it in any way.
There have been instances where a TPG has raised and droped a notes grade based on reinspection. How it is determined is beyond me, however, I have been on th end of a highr mark after 3 submissions..it was firts a AU 58..then a 58 Bold color then a 58 PPQ! Funny thing is it was the same grading co.

BTW..there was a thread over at CU talking about the potential effects of embossing damage to notes sealed in plastic and thus being stacked for storage...I found that interesting and called PCGS on it...the answer I got was a resounding no! It will not effect the embossing over time.
Again...an opinion...I put a $20 Series 1914 in a Capital Plastics screw down holder and feel I smashed down the embossing..that is the note I am talking about in the beginning of this response.

    Go figure huh??

It was your post on the recently back from submission that go me thinking about this. Maybe when your son is an old man if he resubmits, a higher grade can be obtained.

Well I never thought I would say this but these 3 Silver Certs will go up for Auction...I found my $20 Large Size Brown Seal and let me just say it is very expensive...LOL

I have a Dealer friend checking them out now with a contact in New York.
Never thought I would sell a note but man, I want that $20 LBS.

In XF45 the note is approaching 5K!! Here is the write up...

There are only 49 pieces known of this 1880 $20 Large Brown Seal Friedberg 132! PMG has graded only 5 pieces. Only one has been graded uncirculated and two have been graded extra fine.

Double whoa. 1 for selling notes and 1 for an amazing piece (just checked it out in SC of USPM). Hope it works out!

i doubt the condition would change in the slab. it would be a neat experiment to try it on a $1 and see if there was any actual changes
