So, I was at Union Station today, picking up my 6 rolls of LP3, then walking to the other end of the station to get them first-day cancelled with the nice ladies at the post office.

The teller I had and I were chatting about LP3, and she mentioned that she never did get around to getting any of the LP2's and wondered where she could get some.

The teller right next to her said, "hey, look, I have a whole bunch of 'em in the drawer right here!"

Which is actually the very first time I've seen any of the new cents in circulation (I have a bunch, but from purchased rolls).

I'd have asked for them, but the teller I had deserved them more than I.

I have not seen any of the new cents in circulation yet. The ones I have were given to me by generous forum members.

Would of tried to get some in D.C. but the traffic & Parking is not worth the reward. Sorry but I drive Md, D.C. & Northern Va way too much now! I however get my first LP-2 last week in change buying coffee @ again an convenience store! I have also asked in the grocery stores I service about checking for 2009 P Jeffersons...so far none! and another fun fact ....I have seen just about everyday in a store I service...with their penny / change jars / banks what ever to a coin star machine....people are hurting cash wise and starting to uses those loose coins around the house to get by. I also have a friend in Northern Va. who been finding alot of silver in rolls he buys from the bank. I often wonder are these coins from an older person who needs the cash and just not thinking ...or a kid/teen who has found dads silver stash and needs a pack of smokes.

I have had to buy the rolls because I can't seem to get any of the Denver Mint types here in Chicago.

I too was at Union Station today and it was far from cute for a few people. It seems like the Gestapo was out in full force. By Gestapo I mean the Union Station security and not the Mint security which had uniforms and carried guns. There were three customers there that had signs on the front and back of their bodies stating that they will trade L1 and L2, P or D for our L3's. Several people took them up on their offer and then the security people came and informed them that what they were doing was not allowed and to remove the trade signs. About a half hour before opening, a lady who had already been in line for 45 minutes, sat down on the floor to give her legs a break. Of course security was right on top of her and told her to get up, that she can stand in line but she cannot sit on the floor. These are some sorry restrictions

Yowza! Oh yes, there were uncute parts, too.

The lines were short at the 9th St store . . . and *non-existent* after 11:30 ! I (ahem) was able to visit them 3 times during the day.

The line at Union Station was way long every time I visited it. I stood in line there only once (and got asked to remove my bicycle) -- it took me 45 minutes (from approx 12noon to 12:45) to get through that line.

But the ladies at the Union Station post office were very nice! Eventually they just put a cancellation stamper and ink pad on the table so anybody could use it without bothering them. I saw some guy cancel around 90 rolls.

(I had my bike with me, so I could bike between places . . . )
