I found these today while searching a roll. the last pic. is from another 1999 nickel. will only let me put 5 pics up. thanks bill i think all are rpm
Looks interesting but I don't believe it's a RPM. The mint stopped manually punching the mint marks in 1990, the MM is now directly on the master die, so I don't believe RPMs are possible anymore. Here's some info on RPMs: RPM-Repunched Mint Marks
why would it be that only the mint marks are bad? wouldnt you think that the hole coin would be die deteriation? Still fun to look at. I have one more that the whole reverse is die deteriation and it really looks cool. I pick it up every now and then , just to look. thanks for yout help. BILL
Actually, if you look at the date, 1999, you will see some of the same effect there. It could also be from polishing the die.
All die deterioration doubling this is well established on these nickels to have servere DDD on them especially the 99 ones. To really determine ddd on a coin to look at the areas on the field and see an orange peel effect a true sign of a worn die and your coin has that effect on the field near the MM. I have to say , there is a debate going on about a possible 2000 nickel which may be a doubled die by Billy crawford. I think i have a 2000 doubled die which is doubled on the profile as well as the bow die and neck area ,will be sending it in to Billy to confirm this. JC
