Website is not workking correctly, call 1800USAMINT Hiya all, I had the same problem on site. Except I didn't receive a confimation email. Called the mint my order DID go thru. So, sets are still available, even 3 days after release. To save yourself the headache on the site, just call. Just wanted to let you all know. Ron
I have a shipping confirmation on my two bags but my two rolls are still reserved. I guess it would make too much sense to put the two orders together but these days, I feel lucky that the Mint can get them shipped in any manner.
I had to phone in my OIV order on the 2nd, since the website was (still) screwed up. I had to do the same thing when I ordered my Bison nickels. That mint Webmaster (or is it Web messter?) isn't earning his excessive paycheck. But, I was just informed that my coins were shipped today. That was rather quick, for a change.
Received mine! My boxes are dated 7-19-05 I was hoping for first strike, but not this time, Stop Motion
The date on the box has nothing to do with the coins being fisrt strikes or not. The US mint makes the coins, sends them to a company that puts them in rolls and the rolls are then sent to another company that puts the rolls in boxes. Nobody is tracking any "first strikes" when transferring the coins between the companies, so there is no way to know which boxes contain the first strikes. The first coins struck at the mint may still be sitting in a corner of the mint, waiting to be shipped to the roll packaging company together with later strikes These coins will then mixed in the rolling machine so each roll may contain one or two "first strike" coins, but there is no way of knowing. Then the rolls are mixed agan when they are put in the boxes, so how can you tell where the first strikes are? Certainly not by looking at the date on the box.
Yeah, thanks for the info. I didn't know they went through all that. I thought the mint packed and boxed the coin, also. I guess what i was saying is when I saw a P/D box for sale on ebay they said 7-5-05 was the first strike box and sell them that way. Thanks agian, SM
You're right - they do sell them that way trying to get more money for them from those who do not know. And sadly, many times they do.
There may be some few first stike boxes. Assuming some of the very first struck are sent off as soon as possible to be packaged those would have to be first stikes. Of course you have to find out when the run began and when the box was actually sealed. If there on the same day then B I N G O! If not they could any kinda mix of first and later.
If not they could BE any kinda mix of first and later. Sorry I forgot the verb BE. Apparently I don't have a grasp on the english language since I can't properly use the verb of existance. Guess I've been hanging out with Billy C. too much.
Because of the frequency in which the dies are changed - there are first strikes struck almost every day. There is NO WAY in the world to determine which coin or group of coins are first strikes without standing there and taking them from the press as they are struck.
why were all of you guys in a rush to order them right when they came out? Im waiting for something else I want to come out and then Ill order.
Got my Ocean nickels today. Just starting to go through them. Wish my Marine commemoratives arrived in this timely a manner. I'm going to distribute about 30 to 40 of them to family and acquaintances at work. Let's see if I inspire any new coin collectors like I did with my Bison nickel distribution.
I ordered my set the other day online, no problems getting it to go through. Seems like everyone is rushing to order, maybe afraid they'll run out, the Mint is probably really enjoying this!! It took me a while to get my buffaloes, but then I waited until the feeding frenzy was over to order my set. Seems like with each successive new nickel, there is a greater rush to buy quickly! Maybe just hype to get people to get on board and buy, buy!! We'll probably see lots of these nickels on Ebay for sale once the initial frenzy wears off. Haven't seen hardly any buffs in ciruclation though,(maybe a half dozen) as I suspect will be the case with the ocean view nickels, people are pulling them out or maybe just not many are getting into circulation. What's your thoughts on that? '
H O A R D I N G ! ! ! I live in NYC so I eventually see most of the new designs in ciruclation (quarters and nickels). But to date I've only seen ONE bison nickel and about a dozen of the peace and keelboat designs in total. I agree with previous posts that these nickels will never be worth more than they are now during the hype. The only exception will be high grade circulated bison strikes b/c of the overall poor quality (and the satin "uncirulated" sets).
