I dumped off my coin roll hunting coins today and while the teller was changing the bag, she noticed that the reject bin was jammed. She moved some coins and then a bunch dumped out. She let me keep them which was cool and then I started going through them when I noticed what I thought was a chewed up nickel...turns out it was a chewed up antoninianus!!!

Luckily there was enough to be able to read and identify it. I am pretty sure it is a Claudius II. What do you all think?

    Claudius II Gothicus
    Silvered AE Antoninianus
    Antioch mint
Obverse: IMP C CLAVDIVS AVG, radiate, draped, cuirassed bust right
Reverse: DIANAE VICTR, Diana standing right, holding bow and reaching for arrow from quiver on her back, stag to right, H in ex

Right? When I go back next week I’m going to ask if they can open the top so we can look in the interior reject cup. Might be some other cool goodies!

You’d be wise to remember her shift schedule for any future visits.

Yup. I usually bring them candy or something. It's been awhile. They're due for a treat!

That was certainly quite a find for a Coin Star machine! You are lot better at reading these coins than I am. I have to struggle. Foreign languages were never my strong point.

Here's the one in my collection.

    Claudius II Gothicus All.jpg

Antoninianus of Claudius II, Obverse: IMP C CLAVDIVS AVG “Emperor caesar Claudius augustus.” Reverse: FIDES AVG (reverse lettering is blundered, “FEDIS”.) “Fidelity to the emperor.” Mercury holding a purse and caduceus, officina mark “Z” below. RIC 207, Sear 11333

    That's a great looking one!

The obverse of mine was easy enough to make out
The reverse was a bit harder. Luckily, I was able to see the little deer/stag to the right of the person.
There was only one coin on wildwinds that had a "stag" so it was easy to narrow down :)

Maybe I'll find an antoninianus of Gordian III in a roll of quarters!!!

    Right?
I saw someone post about finding ancients in the coinstar reject bin and I couldn't believe it. Now I can.

That’s incredible. I literally cannot imagine any circumstance when this woikd happen.

either: someone found the coin in circulation and put it in their change jar
Someone accidentally had an ancient in their pocket and put it in the coinstar with the rest

    either way it’s crazy

It definitely wasn't one of my ancients haha. I do carry some around from time to time and I dump at this bank every week. But my coins are always in flips when they are in my pocket :)

Back in the day I used to use the "DenarStar" next to the coliseum, a predecessor to today's "CoinStar. A few times I would find some damaged tets or "widows mites ". Ah, the good ole days.

Why dream of only finding a Gordian III? If you are dreaming of a fantasy, why not go for a Gordian I or II? :pompous:

That is a truly epic find. One of a kind here on coin talk as far as I know. I would call that good karma rewarded. @lordmarcovan found a Roman coin by the side of the road once with a metal detector. But finding an Antoninianus in a coinstar is really epic. Maybe finding one inside a bankroll while coin roll hunting would be equally cool especially if it was an ender. Lol

The rest of the world coins and tokens also look pretty cool. Super nice of them to just let you keep all that.
