Came across my desk this morning for face. Any thoughts on condition and value? The flash really brings out the few minor issues this note has. It's a really nice looking note in hand. Thanks for the comments ~ Darryl
I'll guess around $300. Standard Catalog of US Paper Money has XF at $350, so I dropped it down to that and took off $50 for the teller stamp. Nice catch!
Hello Darryl........does your posting id USS656 happen to refer to the naval destroyer Van Valkenburgh or the nuclear sub Geo. Washington Carver ? Just curious. Nice note BTY.
Thanks Noost! It's too bad about the stamp - it's a great looking note otherwise. Have to wonder where it has been hiding all these years!
No, didn't serve. Several years ago after visiting the USS Drum on display as a floating museum in Mobile, along with the USS Alabama, I started collecting submarine naval covers. I am attempting to collect one postmarked aboard each of the subs lost during wwii, and that are now on eternal patrol.
Darryl. That is one of 61,200 notes printed for that Fed Bank, with Boston being the only FRB with lower printing. Sa Francisco has a low SN reported but not a high in the S/L 8th edtion. Too bad about the teller stamp, looks like someone saw the note for what it was and recovered from the full impression of that stamp. It does have a center fold, corner fold and some other little distractions but should retain a premium. How much? Well my friend, that depends on the person who would buy the note and what they would pay. If you were to list it I would start at $225-245. In CHCU it is listed at $450 Nice note to find laying on your desk!! Regards, RickieB
The little note fairy wispered that a red seal five might be waiting for me tomorrow morning and I had to work hard to stifle the yawn after getting this beautiful old note! With such a short run I have to wonder if this is a note that could really appreciate over time? Part of me screams sell it and the other part says this would be a nice note to hold onto and see what happens. Guess I cannot show the wife till I decide ~ we both know what she'll say Thanks for your thoughts!Darryl
