1946 D Roosevelt "V"

    Not sure what this is. I haven't seen this before. It doesn't appear to be post mint. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Looks raised to me.
    Possibly die damage that transfers to a coin during striking.

    There also appears to be a pit in front of the date below the bust truncation.

    It is raised for sure. It is such and odd shape is it possible to be a piece of wire? I'm really interested in this coin and would like to hopefully get a collective determination from the forum.

    Could it be a staple folded in half that was struck on a blank and damaged the die?

    Possibly a strike-through error damaged the die - but if that was the case then more of these would exist because it would not be caught right away. And since I've never seen or heard of one, and doubt anyone else has either, then it is likely something added, for whatever reason, post mint.

    Whatever it is, you can see a low relief area to the right, possibly solder or something. And it looks like somebody cut/scratched the left leg of the raised portion. Who knows why.
