Now, I am not thinking this is one of the two already out there, but this one exhibits doubling and serif splitting on the reverse. Kinda looks like hub doubling. The motto is thicker than normal, but doesn't seem to have doubling. What do you guys think.I can post more pics if wanted.dd:
Jessash, You are killing me with all of your finds! Not much if anything showing on "CENT" but the doubling on "UNITED" is definitely Hub Doubling and a DDR. Now to find out if it is a new Variety or not! Email Chuck with Copper Coins and see what he says. You might want to take some more pictures of "STATES", "AMERICA", the Designer's initials, Memorial building and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and send them to him. Frank
I have really been hitting the grindstone lately with the roll-searching. I have several possible new "ones" I am going to post in a bit. I always run it past you guys first because you guys know your sh..! Thanks
That CCW spread looks like the CONECA listed DDR-002...do the MDS markers match? http://www.conecaonline.org/content/lincolndoubleddies19801997.html#_1983 Larry Nienaber
No, They don't seem to, there are no cracks or scratches on the reverse, the memorial building is doubled, and the obv. seems to be EDS.
This one should have the "ONE" pic. One more thing, There seems to be a die crack(S) all the way through the last part of "AMERICA"
It is really hard to see any doubling on the other Letters but it is evident on the Memorial building! There is also Machine doubling on the "F" of "OF" so you have a little of both types of doubling (Hub and Machine doublin) on the coin. Frank
Sorry, all I see is machine doubling. The right edge of the memorial is shelf like. The mark on the N on CENT is just a contact spot. The notched areas on a doubled die is on the outside toward the rim areas. http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1959_DDR.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1962_D_DDR.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1964DDR_NE.jpg http://imgs.inkfrog.com/pix/coop49/1964DDR_ON.jpg
coop, Look back at the first pictures of "UNITED". I am almost certain that the doubling on "UNITED" is Hub doubling! Frank
I have one that has the same type of Doubling on it........, but mine is CCW, were yours looks to be CW.
Let me see, it flat and shelf like. So it must be machine doubling. Sorry. If it were rounded it might look like this:
Sorry guys, N1tot has a doubled die. The first coin in the thread is victimized by die deterioration as well as machine doubling. Thanks, Bill
