OK, so I've been digging through LOADS of change recently and I want to see what some things I've found are called and want to know if some others are even errors, so lets start with this 2007 P dime: What is this surface error on a coin caused by / called? I've found several other coins with similar errors from the same mint/year as well.
I also found a 1985 D penny with a rotated mint mark - dunno if these are rare, but also found a 1987 D rotated slightly as well. On the penny, you can also see some streaks across the surface of the coin... what are these called?
Finally, the one that I think might actually be a more tangible error is on the reverse of this 1999 P Dime. Draping from the bottom of the U in "PLU" is a raised section of metal. Dunno what to call it, I really am not experienced enough yet.
okay, I'll try to do them in order: the 2007 D dime: Possible die burn. Nothing special, very common. the 2008 P dime: Die erosion, just an old die, nothing special. The 1985D Dime, 1987 D CENT: just normal mintmark postion variations. the 1999 P dime: Possible clash marks.
2007 D struck through grease. You can see the way the grease moved outward as the coin was struck. 2008 D Struck by a worn die. Die deterioration is the term we use. 1985 D and 1987 D cents...as stated ...normal variations in MM positions and orientation 1999 D dime also struck through a slight amount of grease.
