Hi all! This came in a small lot I bought recently. I have no idea what it is, but was attracted to buy the lot because of the interesting bust. The reverse appears to have someone on a ram (?) racing left (I think I see some curly horns) Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
I guess it is Pan riding the ram. The bust looks like Dionysus or Zeus. Try searching on Dionysus Ram Pan and see what you find. John
I think it could be a bronze from Kallatis, Moesia Inferior. Image Munzen & Medaillen GmbH Munzen & Medaillen sold the one above in 2005 and described it as 'KTIC-THC Bearded Heracles head with left to right / KALLAT-IA-NWN (declining). Hermes, naked, sitting on a running ram, holding a purse in his outstretched right hand, the kerykeion in his left. AMNG I, 1, 111, 296. Rare.'
