Silver from tellers

I know some people have a good relation with their bank tellers, who may even keep an eye out for silver for a favorite patron.

Has anyone ever had such an arrangement with a teller? What is fair compensation for silver? do you pay melt value? less, but more than face?

I was thinking about asking my sister in law and her bank friends. I am trying to figure out fair compensation for people who normally couldn't care less about the silver content.

How about 2x face for 40% and 4x face for 90%?

Just thinking out loud with ya....

I've gotten to know my bank manager very well and have educated her and several of the tellers on things to look for not just the Silver Coins and she held a few things for me but nothing spectacular I think they see it has kind of a hassle. I offered them 4X face for 90% who knows they may have all got together and decided to hold them for themselves.

I think most of the tellers already have a friend of a friend that they collect for. However, today I did get two brand new full unopened boxes of the Lincoln pennies, railsplitter and log cabin, because I told the branch VP I was looking for them. Well I did not want full boxes but beggers can't be choosers.

For the most part you get a cold shoulder if you walk into the banks looking for rolls of any coin even just pennies to search!

I have at least 3 different banks where a few tellers save silver for me, and they even know that it's silver. Buy it from them at face and every now and then bring in a nice treat for everyone. Icecream on hot days, pizza sometimes, etc...

The two banks I deal with the tellers tell me that they can take no monetary compensation. Therefore they accept chocolate and chocolate shakes. Pretty cheap compensation. I tried to give one a gift certificate to a local eating establishment. No go she couldn't take it... Iam happy with our arrangement and so are they.

I'm also lucky enough to have tellers looking out for me. One teller has saved all her Kennedys for me. In the past couple of weeks I've gotten 1 90% and 8 40% halves.

I get the coins at face, and take my teller friends a thank you treat from time to time.

If you are dealing with a relative, it is important to consider whether or not you will damage your relationship with that person by low-balling once they find out you've been cheating them. It is better to be honest up front and tell them what the melt value of the coin is and work out a reasonable discount from melt. But don't be surprised if they start saving them for themselves.

I too search some rolls from localbanks I know some of these tellers also save for themselves some dont... I like the idea of face and a treat for the staff of tellers or other bank employees occasionally ..rolls, bag of minitures candy bars fruit basket at holidays ect and we dont have to be cheap if we do have a good search the treat could be a little "sweeter" jmho

Usually they seem to get wise and start holding them for themselves after a while. :(

Now I just go ask for whatever they have or ask them to order a bag and go through it. I then spend it at local fast food joints and when they are gone I go back for more.

You know you are in trouble when the coins you just spent start showing up at your bank again.
