I was reminded tonight how I used to get some coins. I belonged to a coin club as a kid and had coins sent to me to see if I wanted to purchase them. If I didn't want them I would send them back and they would send more. I think they sent 5 at a time. I purchased a few that way.
I used to do this with stamps when I was briefly interested in them. I really would love to try this method with coins because it seems really effective. Do you know any site that I can sign up for this online.
I remember littleton coin company used to do that for me, but I cancelled it when I became paranoid of lost expensive coins in the mail
Yea Littleton still does this but the coins are priced about 3 times what they are worth. They claim it's because they hand pick thier coins. Hope it's with gloves!

3 times on a bad day. Littleton automatically enrolls you into their coin club if you purchase a nationally advertised special. Been there done that.
Me too, once I purchased some coins in a tv guide ad, I go on vacation and next thing I know, they have a bunch of coins in my mailbox that must be sent back within a few days or I need to pay for them. Scared me a bit, never dealing with them again.
Yep Littleton does hand pick their coins. Ask any dealer that has sold to them (like my boss). They can be extremely picky and send back about half of what you send them. They pay good as dealers go but are very slow to pay. We don't really waste our time with them anymore. They do tend to grade quite honestly though as well they should for what the charge. Now as for some of my "bigger" purchases when I was a kid. Yes, I did a few from coin mags. Still have my 1804 half cent and 1807/6 large cent. Original coins and I paid too much but back then I had no real clue as THESE COINS WERE OLD. Not many dealers nearby and no internet or forums to help you. I was about 10 or so when I did this. YNs of today. I really hope you DO appreciate what some of us went through as YNs.
Yes, I too used to do the mailed coin selections. I enrolled via snail mail through Numismatic News and Coin News ads. I still have many of the coins I bought over 20 years ago from Littleton and other companies. Littleton still offers the service but you will never recoup the premium they asses on everything they sell. Thank goodness for the internet and scores of options you have today of buying online, direct through the mail. Littleton has this profit shares thing that you get credits for each purchase. About three years ago I found my stash of profit shares and decided to see what I could get for them. I emailed their customer service and asked if they were still valid, they said yes, mailed me a profit shares list of items you could order and the best item for the shares I could get was a '46 walking liberty half.
I am arguing with them right now, I bought 2 or 3 of the coins they sent me and I also sent a few back. Then I never saw anymore! Now they are sending me bills for a 2008 AME & a 1974 IKE that I never saw!! They said they sent them to me on approval several months ago but I think either the mailman or my neighbor is enjoying them because I never saw them.
Never did that with coins. But I used to get stamps on approval. Definitely from Littleton, and possibly from H.E. Harris (forgotten).
