As you know if you read previous posts, I went to Cali to my late father's house to look for 3 missing Dansco albums that I was to inherit. I didn't find them. They were a Walking Liberty half collection with only 3 missing, a Barber half and a barber quarter, both 85-90 % complete. Nevermind the value, the Walkers were my Dad's favorite alltime coin and represented a lifetime of collecting from circuation for him. Words cannot express my sadness over this sentimental loss. All we can figure is that they were stolen by one of the hospice nurses....no one else had access.

But, I did come away from California with some coins, some found at my Dads in my search, some from other family members who sold them to me below market.

    Here's what I got:
    • A small lot of great looking AU copper cents (mostly wheat) with tons of luster (see pic)
    • Silver: One 1946 Walker, 64 quarter, 63 Roosevelt dime, 44S war nickel and a 1936 Mercury Dime
    • 1930 very fine buffalo nickel
    • About 12 late 40's/early 50's nickels
    • 1 1863 Indian Head cent
    For $25 I also got
    • 3 64 Kennedy halves
    • 1 60d Franklin half
    • 3 silver quarters (2 61, 1 64)
    • 1 1935 Silver Certificate (pics in Paper $ thread)
    • 1 1874 Fractional 25 cent note (torn...pics in Paper $ thread)
    • 2 whitman cent folders mostly filled (no key dates), book 1 (09 - 41) pictured.
    • 4 foreign coins (1925 six pence, 1938 one shilling, 1992 Polish Ztoty, and one unidentified one (I'll post in world coin thread).
This took some of the bite out of the loss....or at least distracted me a little bit. Thanks for listening.....

    Bobbeth,

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad! Also, it is even worse that someone (a Hospice Nurse or other) would steal the coins apparently when he was dying. If you have any information (paper documentation, pictures, etc.) on the stolen items, then I would file a Police report. I would also contact the Hospice and each Nurse that cared for your Dad and inform them that if the coins are returned, no charges will be filed. If not, then you will pursue the thieves and the business to the full extent of the Law. This might be enough in itself to get the person to return the coins but if someone in Law Enforcement starts snooping around and asking questions, then they may give up the coins quickly!

Did you check to see if your Dad might have put them in a safe-depost box?

Thanks for the kind words.....Just to avoid confusion, my dad passed last March, this was one last dash effort to find the 3 danscos.

My dad was unable to travel to a safety deposit box.

How about that fractional? and those cents? (time to concentrate on the positives of the weekend)
