Interested in your opinions on these coin shows & their over inflated prices. It amazes me how the public seems to jump on these coin shows and pay double the going rate on coins still being sold by the mint. That fellow on HSN & his " little red oak presentation boxes" cracks me up:goofer: Whats your opinions :desk: on these shows ?

They are both sad and comical, tragic and absurd!

They are both sad and comical, tragic and absurd!

They are sad and also tragic because older or less knowledgeable folks buy this stuff and we see it come into coin shops and they only get a fraction of their money returned usually to their heirs because they are now gone.

It is funny and absurd because of all the clever wording and associations with fact, some true and some untrue and all taking out of context.

It's like so many thing with advertising and trends along with peoples ignorance.
You can now buy 5 cents worth of caffeine and 5 cents worth of vitamins for $4 at any convenience store in a plethora of cute little bottles and packages. The same amount of home brewed coffee costs about 20 cents.
Go figure "there's a fool born" well you know the rest.

No no no, I don't like them , their about one step above the plague , the way they rip off the public is sad . Geeeezzzzzzz I didn't know there were other shows out there, thanks for the info. I guess I would like to inform the public to check out the U. S. Mint before you blow your hard earned money on these slop shows.

Over the weekend, a friend of my Brother in law wanted to sell their coins. I took a look at them and they were all the TV packaged coins with circulated Ikes and Sacs and Mercs, packaged in plastic with various themes. The marketing is both brilliant and tragic. Of the 30 or so encased mini collections (3 to 4 coins each), there were only about 4 coins with any numismatic value (mercs in EF to AU). I offered $45 for the whole thing and I'm sure they spent hundreds and hundreds for these. It was sad. This was an elderly woman doing all of the purchases. The offer wasn't taken. Had I gotten it, I would have just broken up the collections and spent the Sacs, etc. and kept just a couple of the silver coins and come out slightly over even.

    Sad....

There is an even worse looking TV coin show out there and it is AANTV or something like that now that is true junk. People bid and then they offer to meet the bid with other bidders meaning you aren't getting the coin you made a decision to bid on. Just crazy and I would bet both both my gold coins they bid against the bidder as well! Sad.
