    Howdy peeps, :)

The world is seriously full of bidiots! :goof: Look at the following auctions and whether or not the coin being sold is authentic and also note a link to the buyer of each auction is included after each auction link:

That's several thousand dollars that seller has scammed from buyers on Ebay and in the process of scamming all those folks, the seller got themselves a big fat POWER SELLER sign to bring in even more unsuspecting bidiots! :goof:

    Ribbit

Ps: Feel free to message any of the buyers above to inform them of their dilemma. ;)

You would think the sellers address of hong kong would have been enough. Sigh.

Call me an ebay snob but there is no way on this earth I would hand over $950 or $1001 (I believe it was) to someone with 252 sells even if they are all 100% feedback!

Don't you want to hold that kind of purchase in your hand or have a seller you know and trust have it for sell?

Many concluded that ebay is loaded with idiots long ago. I remember almost 10 years ago having long conversations about how unbelievably stupid some of the auction bidding was. And I don't mean just coins.

wow. That's an amazing litany of Stuuupidity.

I admit to having a similar 1886 cc Morgan. I figured it was harmless since it feels like it is made from aluminum, looks like it was forged with a jackhammer & and Carson City never made any Morgans that year!

I won the auction for a full 10 cents after perhaps one too many late one night. It seemed like a fun thing to do at the time. I carry it in my pocket and take it to yard sales to ask folks if they might have any coins that looks like it.....only real.

I don't know if that makes you an ebay snob, but I think it makes you a little unreasonable.
If a seller has a full return privilege, has a good descriptions, and good pictures, I would buy from him (with the exception of the seller having something like 1 feedback, or a bunch of negs)

I will not purchase ANY coins at this time from China nor Hong Kong. I wouldn't even buy a Chinese coin from China with any amount of trust. I also will not purchase any coins sold on Ebay out of NYC :) lol

I don't know anybody in their right mind who would buy the coins from china or hong kong, or anywhere outside of the US. (Exception of Canada maybe)

Wow those are some horrible fakes. What idiot buyers. I can't say the same for the seller because he's raking in the cash. I don't feel bad at all for the buyers of these obvious counterfeits. DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU WASTE MONEY ON BAD FAKES!

I will not blindly not do anything. ;) While I will be more cautious with Asia based sellers, I will buy from them if they are selling authentic coins. I recently purchased this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270420099143&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

If you will look in that seller's store, you will see they are selling authentic coins and I had no problems whatsoever with this seller, so I'd recommend them to anyone. :thumb:

What do you want them to do about it? the coins are undoubtedly real, and I'm sure they DO weigh 5.6 troy ounces - in total! Nowhere does it say that there are 5.6 ounces of silver - actual silver weight should be 10%, or .56 ounce, if the coins weigh 5.6 ounces.

I doubt I would ever spend so much money on ebay, but I'm not sure I understand about the coins being fake. Are these coins fake because the seller is in China? Or are there obvious clues in the pcitures that tell you thay are fake? In particular, I'm interested in knowing how the Morgans are identified as fake from the photos. Thanks!

Since I posted a ton of different auctions, covering all kinds of koins, I will pick the 1909-S VDB and explain it:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200362285077

The first thing that should easily be noticed is it's been recolored. When a counterfeiter makes these, they look new but due to the poor quality, they look worn right off the press so they will recolor them to make them look circulated and they did a poor job recoloring that one.

The next thing to note is the mint mark. The position and shape and size of the "S" is wrong for a 1909-S VDB and you can search CoinTalk for threads concerning that specific coin and there is more information provided in them to help you authenticate them from pics and once you compare the fake one above, to the examples shown, you'll see the mint mark is wrong and there's no need to go any furhter, that's all it takes to out that one. ;)
