I am on the wire here about leaving feed back on two items I purchased on e bay. The first an 1869 Shield nickel. The second a 1948 -D Unc. Franklin half. I was so excited from the picture of the nickel because I knew it was an 1869 wide date Variety Misplaced Date PUP Ball of Shield URS-3 I-3 L-3 The picture of this item was not very clear at to the top of the coin I would of graded it as an XF . The seller had in all her listing "high quality "and "rare find" in all her listings. Now at middle age my eyes are not as good as they were years ago. The nickel was like I said an XF all except the huge scratch or gouge in the "W" in WE the W was just about gone! I could not see this in her picture as she had shot it in the photo. Next I bid and won also a 1948-D UNC. Franklin half nice UNC coin nice luster but again the photo did not show the huge scratch running from the top of the back of Franklin crown to the base of his neck! I returned the nickel and received a refund. I went and had another look at her other items again. I found after doing a few photo tricks most all her items are semi keys or varieties but most are damaged coins! She is selling by her listing HIGH GRADE and RARE Damaged coins. The trick is her lighting and the way she is shooting the coins. Now my problem is I hate leaving a negitave feed back or even a netural ...she did refund me the money ...but I don't want anyone else to be taken by this seller.Do I report her to e bay and then get no answer from them as in the passed. Or just leave feed back to make others aware as to her game? I do have a funny feeling that something is wrong with this seller seems that she has a hord of key/ semi key and varieties all with problems! Do I report to e bay or leave a negative?
Yeah Frank she did...I should of known that something was wrong! The lighting and angles of the photos are very deceiving. once you catch the process you know that they are hiding something on the coin being sold. Masked by the story of a little old lady selling her coins. She does claim that she's no expert....however it just seems fishy to me that someone would have so many keys semi keys and varieties? The Franklin was shot from a flat angle. not from 90 more like 7 thus the surface does not show the scratch until you have it in your hand and looking at it head on! The Rev. is fine NP. However the scratch on the OBV. is deep and may have been wizzed somewhat to remove the raised metal. The half I paid alittle over melt for it ...no reason to return it and pay postage ....the Nickel was returned and a refund given. BUT.... sellers like this scare me on E Bay....as a seller on E bay I have never listed any coin that I knew was damaged or whizzed..or not orginal ....and always given a refund on any item sold if requested. but again as a seller on E Bay I have found that the two neg's I received were from buyers who were anything but honest themselves. Thats why I'm so on the fence over what is my next move.
I'm thinking because the Seller processed a refund and it doesn't appear as though she gave you any grief in doing so I would say it's probably worth a neutral with comments of misleading photo's or not received as advertised. This will also serve as warning to other buyers to be cautious. JMO
I believe the feedback system only works if we are honest with it. At this point since there is no retaliation system that can be used against you for being honest you should proceed with out fear and leave the feedback that you honestly felt about the person. I have only ever left Neutral or Neg maybe a couple of times in 100's of purchases and I agree to be really sure what mark you give, but if there is definitely deliberate malicious intent in this sellers auction you should neg. in my opinion.
I do agree... Like I said in another post as a seller I have twice been hit with a neg. over a situation that did not merit. One was a Canadian who wanted me to falsify customs docks & I would not be a party to it, another over a enamel coin that was sold as a "enamelled coin" not jewlery and the buyer gave me a neg over the pin did not work! This is why I am weighting my responce on this issue as I don't want to leap into something I might regret. As a seller I felt it was unfair to be given a neg. over such crazy reasons. E Bay there is no protection for the seller and things are getting worse..... I closed my e bay store and now plan to try other smaller auction type sites. Their fee's ,new policies all seem to me to be one way. Driving collectors / dealer like me away. Thanks for your input...I guess what I really want is not to put this person out of business ....just in case they are legit...but do want them to know that there are people who do know coins and scams . Paddy
Well this just get's better ....I returned the coin with a statement that the item was damaged. She refunded my money and now has it back up for sale on E bay with new pictures of it and other coins for sale. # 150363874624 have a look :goof: Before you could not see the mark on the WE in IGWT now you can ....but read her discription of her items. The nickel does not say one word about being damaged goods. Looks to me most have been cleaned however this lot has less rim dings and are a better quality than the last lot she listed. Have a look she's selling the best coins on E Bay NOT! Rethinking she might just get a negative! I'm going to file a report with e bay over this matter !
Follow up.... After reading all your replies and making up my mind I was going to leave a netural feed back. Now that the greedy seller has relisted it and I reported it ...E Bay has blocked me from leaving Negative feed back ! Yes that right I have tried 5 times to leave a negative to ward off other buyers from being taken in by this seller and now E bay has blocked me! Stick a fork in me I'm DONE ....E bay cya...all about the $$$$$ nothing to protect buyers or sellers for that matter! Shame that some know how to skirt the laws and others pay for it.
I think you need to wait a week or something after you report an item, they really make it a pain for someone to say something bad.
That is the price many have paid for using ebay and thinking the feedback system is so great. My Son sells on ebay and has many, many freinds send in the greatest possitive feedbacks possible. I'm sure many others have done the same and as already noted a negative feedback is many times ignored or not accepted.
I would have to see how misleading the photo was to make a decision. I am sure you are probably right, but without seeing the photos I wouldn't pass judgment. If the photo is altered, hang them. If you aren't observant, learn from the mistake. From what you are saying, it sounds like it is somewhere in between. As for feedback... she may neg you back, saying she gladly refunded you and you *****ed anyways. After all, isn't that a good seller that gladly takes items back? I don't really go by feedback on ebay, since fear of retaliatory negs are so common. Hope it all works out in your favor. -- dw
" After all, isn't that a good seller that gladly takes items back? ".....no a good seller or coin dealer never sells a coin or any item with a problem...without disclosing the problem. Yes I received a refund from this seller on one coin...the other was not worth the postage to ship it back for a refund.....My point on this thread was the dealer using key words ie rare ...unc....high quality...the finial straw was the seller relisting to sell a damage coin to another person with full knowage of the coin being damaged! I rather someone else read this and not make a purchase they might regret as I do.....If I can save you or another from being ripped off by a dealer like this it was worth the loss of a few bucks... but never worth the hassel!
