Hello everyone i have an old coin and i just want some info on it. i found it inside an old gramophone i bought at an auction and just wanted to know what it was and if its worth anything? any help would be great! thanks, mike.
I know little about US Colonial coinage, but I wonder if this 8 Real is one? If its real, you got that gramophone pretty cheap!
Mexican, perhaps? http://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotviewer.php?LotID=713346&AucID=523&Lot=3550&Match=1
Yes it's Mexican. Very nice coin, how many did you find? Certainly looks like a fairly expensive coin to me, if it's real of course. I forget the site but if you google rare Mexican coins a site will come up and they sell those coins but I haven't seen one that nice. I suggest you get them graded before you try to sell one so you will know what you have and you will never regret selling one. It's called a Carolus or a Real, very old!! and highly collectible
Spanish Colonial 8 reales from Mexico City, though it looks like a fake. The date 1776 is particularily prone to be faked, since it fetches a premium. The weight should be about 27 grams. If it is less than about 26.8 grams, then it is guaranteed to be a copy.
I'm pretty sure that that just means that we don't have anything confirming that it's fake. You will need someone who is very familiar with this coinage to take a look at it to determine whether it's real.
Looks authentic to me! :thumb: But I'm not an expert so I could be wrong. Ribbit Ps: Welcome to CoinTalk! :hail:
