Just real quickly, it's MS, and I wouldn't let it go for less than 65 money (and I feel like I'm being conservative, saying that). Don't know enough on the VAMs. Great-looking gem, though, IMHO.

I'm not a VAM guy either, but I'll take a stab at MS-65....:)

From the photos it looks like VAM 1 to me. Nice coin!

Click here and see a spotted, scratched-up, NGC-65: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=29082&Lot_No=22627#photo. The only thing that coin possibly has over yours is more luster. Your toning more than compensates for that. And while technically strike doesn't impact on grade, yours is better-struck (just compare the hair above the ear, for one), and that definitely impacts on price. Needless to say, now that you disclosed, very good buy, IMO.

Thanks, I've really been looking to add some unique coins to my collection! I'm kind of glad this was MS64, because I didn't have MS65 money on me at the time (that dealer only takes cash)..lol, maybe PCGS was tough on this one, maybe the pics are overly generous, maybe the PCGS guy was having a bad day lol. I didn't buy the coin for the slab! :) I'm glad you like the coin, this is my first certified morgan! and thanks for the refernce, I'm going to watch that one to see what it goes for~!

When I see a coin like this graded like this, I think split-decision grade.

Nice coin. From your pictures, which are slightly blurry, it's hard to tell if I'm seeing all the marks on it.

    Hi,

I was going to reply without looking at the rest of the thread beyond the first post, but I tempered my newbie enthusiasm. I, too, pegged it at 65. Not a VAM expert by any means, but nothing jumped out at me.

From the pics, really great eye appeal!

PS: Great site. I've enjoyed watching you folks converse. Been lurking for a bit.

Not sure about the VAM but that is a really clean coin for a 64, what I mean by clean is the lack of chatter in key focal areas.

    Looks like a great pickup.
