I was in the states doing a road trip from Toronto to as far as Alabama, and then up to the beautiful Outer Banks for a few days. On my travels, I figured out a way to collect state quarters...from a vending machine! I put in a buck, pushed the coin return button and out came quarters. If I got a regular washington or a double, I put them back in the machine, and new ones were spit out. In the end I got all 50 states except 7, hopefully there's someone on here where I can get the rest from. I also got 2 Guam, 2 D.C., 2 bi-centennial, and 1 Puerto Rico quarter. A nice haul for myself!
Sounds like a fun way to do it, I used to do it here at work and have a few jars filled with the early state quarters. You could also stop by a bank and get a bag or rolls of quarters, the other option is e-bay.
I was really happy with my two bi-centennial quarters which were in EF condition. Also, I was really surprised to see territorial quarters pop out of the machine
I just tried to do that here at work in the lounge and the darn machine spit back my Dollar instead of making change... Oh well...
It just depends on the machine - some spit back the dollar and others spit out change. Sounds like fun. What seven did you miss?
I used to do this with the stamp machines at the Post Office. i.e. put in dollars and buy penny stamps and get the change to sort through. It was a lot less trouble than dealing with curious looks from bank tellers.
I think that the machine has to need a new brand, so that you can collect and insert object. If this is a regular ,it's better to get them back. It could be easy to return the coin if the coin was behind the button.
Why in the world where you driving from toronto to Alabama? Where you following the gesse? I hope you enjoyed your stay in "The Hart of Dixie". Thats is also lol funny about the vending machine. I do not collect state quarters, but if I did that would def be a good way to go about it. 2nd question. Why did you not just drive into a bank and pick up a few boxes? Proboly not as fun I guess, but each to his own.
i like putting a $20 in the change machine at school. i have yielded alot of coins that i kept including bicentennials, state and provinces, and it also spits out dollar coins which i have kept if i dont already have that particular one. I feel like i won something when $20 in coins come rolling out of the machine.
buddy of mine works at a hospital and works the vending machines that way.. gets a lot of nice quarters......wayyyy of subject but i cant help myself... ROLLLLLLLLL TIDE
The Washington DC metro is a good way to get presidential dollars. Just put in $5 more than you want your fare card to be and you'll get five $1 coins. Granted that you may get some scuzzy Sacs or SBA, I've gotten some very nice P mint presidentials in great shape.
Nice. One time at school, I had a Coke machine give me fake 1895-0 Barber Quarter. Sure got me going for a second.
I've been known to do the same trick, but with half dollar or nickel slot machines. Just put in a twenty, wait for the credits to show up, and cash out. No gambling necessary!
