I agree that something is up with that coin. The "s" looks funny to me as well as the date. At best it's a damaged genuine; but I'm concerned about the authenticity. edit-I think I see a "vdb" on Lincoln's shoulder, which would lend more credit to Frank's suggestion of a drilled "1919". Lincoln did not receive VDB on his shoulder until 1914 and up. sorry...:-(
I have a bag of these IKEs 75 in all. They came out of my father in laws SDB along with many CC dollars. I was going to take the IKEs to the bank today to sell for $1.00 each. I was looking up coins online and found out these have silver in them!. I thought they were cheap clad coins. Lucky I still have them.
"That's a nice one! Just for practice grading seated coins, that looks to be about AU53 right? " That sounds about right to me. This coin is so dirty, it's hard to tell what's grunge and what's dull luster. Did you see the old coin album gunk stuck to the eagle's leg? Acetone bath tomorrow!
OK, here we are after an hour in acetone. the folder debris was gently prodded off the eagle with a toothpick. No other manipulation.
Looks nice! (cleaned?) I have a 1915 Indian $5.00 coin in the same condition but it was cleaned I found out later the collectors like them with the old gold finish look and I was offered only $150.00 for the coin. I didn't sell it and still have it.
Lincoln LP1 Error I have found several what I consider errors on LP1 & LP2 Lincoln cents. on this one the cut in the hair at the back of Abe's head jumps out at me. There are several other cuts on the obverse. Being new at errors and never even knowing there was such a thing, I'm interested in opinions/suggestions on what to do with them. Attribute them? Just enjoy what I find? AND are they sellable? If this works I'll attach several more that I have managed to get descent pix of. Still working on improving those (pix)!
Here's a site to visit on errors http://www.conecaonline.org/ Not sure what to think on your Lincoln, the mark on the hairline in impressed into the coin, maybe post production damage. Just a thought.
