This quarter circulated and picked up some damage marks but my question is whether its downgrade is more from wear or from a flat strike? I got this from circulation when I was young but always wondered if some kid pulled it out of dad's collection to spend since most slq's I got were much more worn. I hear that these are not always well struck but have no idea whether this is normal or exceptionally bad for these. Comment?

The strike is not bad at all. I would say it's a solid VF.

I would say it is entirely due to wear. If it had a weak strike then the rivets on the left side of the shield would not be there as they are.

I'll second Doug's opinion. This coin seems to have been pretty decently struck. It just circulated. It would have been a heck of a coin new. Probably a full head.

Thanks all. Different coins wear in different ways and this coin is way out of my area. I was concerned that the top of the leg seemed more square topped than would be from wear but stackable low relief coins probably slide straight across each other more than I'm allowing for.
