I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum, but I'm clueless on what to do.

I'm a casual novice/amatuer/newbie when it comes to coin collecting. Anyway, I was actually searching for the puerto rico quarter when this happened. In the 10 rolls of quarters I searched, one of the quarters just looked really really shiny. I thought it was either a really good fake or maybe i should keep it for now. I showed it to the bank teller and he didn't know either. After asking the nice person from another forum, the person said to check with cointalk and scan the image of the quarter.

All I know is that it has an S stamp on it... I tried to scan, but I'm not sure on the details on scanning the thing.

Could someone please tell me more about this quarter? Thank you for reading my post and having the patience to help me out.

That is a quarter out of a US mint proof set. The modern proofs (most) are made in Sanfransico, hence the S mintmark. If you look on the edge to see if the copper shows you can determine if it is a silver proof or not. No copper showing = silver proof.
    Great find from roll searching.

for as long as I worked in retail and all of the odd finds I had, I too have never found a proof coin in circulation. I did once find an S-minted bicentennial quarter in circulation, but it was not the proof version.

Nice find vivyip!! At first glance it looks silver to me too, but from a pic you can never tell.

Great find and welcome to the forums. This forum was just fine for posting the scan.

As others mentioned, finding proof quarters in circulation is extremely tough.

    Congrats.

........welcome to the forums and GREAT FIND! as far as asking people at the bank, you'd be way further ahead asking here. many many many employees at the bank have no interest or concern with the coins and would probably think the question pertaining to coins is just holding up the line.

I would say proof, cameo, probably 64, but you could tell better by looking at the coin, any scratches or dings barely noticeable take off a little, very noticable take off more, cant miss it take off a whole bunch

    Great find !!

What a wonderful way to initiate an interest in collecting.

As mentioned, don't get up hopes that this will happen
    very often.
