    Hiya gang,

Just wanted to let you all know my '09-'40 lincoln set is coming along great. Of coarse, I can only dream about the elusive 1909 svdb and the 1922 plain, but the rest of the dates are beautiful. My set consists of 1909- 1934 in XF (with an occasional AU thrown in), then 1934 to 1940 are MS.

I do have 4 complete sets of 1940- 2005 in MS. One of those being my first ever MS set. But I was very inexperienced back then and paid $15 for it. The other 3 are parts of 1909- 2005 sets. It's taken me a couple years, and a couple grades of each to piece together a set to be proud of but I did. I'm very pleased with the final set. Funny how getting started you look for the lowest grade you can afford to spending up to $30 a coin in the end.

All my XF's have full wheat lines and crisp details on lincoln. From the waves in his hair to the folds in his jacket. I wish I knew how to take pictures so I could show all of you.

    Thanks,

    Ron

(P.S.- has anyone every noticed lincolns beard has become more defined over the last couple years? Or is that just a higher MS?)

Congrats Ron! That's no small accomplishment...good for you.
You'll get those last couple of goodies in due time, I'm sure.
In the mean time, practice your picture taking so we can see! :D

Keep up the good work. Paying for $15 for a 1940-2005 in MS in not a bad price to paid. In life, I have certainly made mistakes that are more expensive. I have been in the slow process of building three sets, one for me, and one each for my two girls. Moreover, yes, the penny details as been more defined. Glad to hear you are having fun...

I LOVE LINCOLN CENTS! Good job on getting your sets, and best of luck with the '22 plain and SVDB - I'm still on the lookout for mine; someday I'll have it! I also just got my first look in real life at the '55 doubled die cent. Holy crap I gotta get me one of those! They're just too cool to be NOT in a Lincoln cent set!

    Congratulations.

I have been working on Lincoln Cents for 50 years and don't have as nice of sets as you do.

    :) :)

I am ready to celebrate 100 years of Lincoln cents...I need the 1909-S Indian cent to complete the complete set of Lincoln/Indian Cents from 1909:

    Nice PCGS

I've always wondered if I should get some of my keys graded by PCGS or another grading service. How do I go about doing that? Is it easier to let a dealer send them in or should I dish out the money any get them done myself? My friend sold his collection a couple months ago in a Dallas auction. Made a killing, think the article said close to 1 million for his complete set. But his were all pcgs graded. He's the one that got me started in collecting. I should give him a call. Since he retired we've pretty much stopped talking. He went his way and I went mine. Back to grading, which would be easier? I know PCGS has different memberships. Which is the best? One more thing, how do you take pictures? Do you scan them or do you have a digital camera?

    2009 lincoln

What do you think is going to happen in 2009 with the lincolns? A new design maybe? Which will be the year to collect, 2008 or 2009? I know it can go either way, a new design is always highly collected. Plus, the last year of an old design is collected to. Just look at the 1908 indian for example.

4 differant reverses depicting Lincoln's life will be struck in 2009. I used a digital camera to take the picture (macro mode, no flash) set on a black backgroud (my son's jeans).

As for submitting, you can go to many of the grading companies' website for rates and answers to submission fees. Because of today's scams and counterfeiters, I only buy key date coins that have been authenticated.

Those are absolutely beautiful! And MS93Br on the S-VDB, too! Congrats! The only one I have so far is a G-6 1909-VDB.... But I love it!

I know a guy who had his collection stolen...but his one item was a set of 1909 coins...just like you have...they were all in one holder and they were all RED.

What are saying Speedy? I have records for all of my coins:

1909S-VDB, Purchased from a local coin dealer in FL back in 2003
1909-VDB, Purchased from Heritage Auctions in 2004
    1909-P, Purchased via eBay 2005
1909-S , Purchased at the FUN show in 2004
1909 Indian, Purchased after trading in my MS63RB at another dealer in FL in 2005 for this one.

As for security, if they can get pass my dead bolts, security system, dog, my gun, and my safe...I guess they really want it. Also, I keep some of these coins in a safe deposit box at the bank.

No I didn't mean it like that...this was years ago and there is no hope in every finding any of his...he was a big collector and when you posted your set I couldn't help posting...this is only the 2ed set of this I have heard of!...

So I was just saying that I doubt that many of these sets are around!!

No problem...if I reacted too quickly, it is because I really take pride in my Lincolns.

It has taken years of saving, searching, buying, selling, upgrading (countless times), and trading to complete my set. I only need the 1955 DDO, which is really an error, but a popular one none the less to state I have it.

Sorry for jumping on you. It is hard to read between the lines sometimes

    Remember have fun!

This tread was made to exchange info and picture. I don't think he meant you took them :) It is a beautiful set you have. Maybe someday with enough overtime at work and saving my pocket change I'll have enough to buy atleast one. I'm saving for a house now so most of all that is going towards a nice downpayment. My coins still hold a special place in my mind. I'm don't go crazy and just buy to buy anymore. Now it's more of, buy to upgrade. I must have atleast 100,000 wheats lying around my apartment. Girlfriend picks them up and puts them in change jar. Every now and then I have to go thought that jar just to make sure she did not throw any wheats in. Getting back to your set, keep up the good work!

Nice pick up. Glad you have the real deal. Not too long ago, I saw a AU 1914-D for sale on ebay. It looked like this:

Take a 1944-D (worth around 50 cents and "shave" it till it looks like a 1914-D. The hammer price ended up at $381.50. I emailed the buyer and the "runner-up" alerting them that this coin was probably a fake. I even told the seller, but the seller's response was "I an NOT a coin collector as I have been asked to help sell this collection". Yeah...sure.

I had a fake 1914-P....the guy had started working on it (or at least it looked like it) and messed up.
