I was just wondering how long it will take, if ever for the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" to be taken off U S coinage. In today's politically correct society I expect it to be challenged one day in court, if it hasn't happened already.

There doesn't seem to be a definitive US Supreme Court case (yet) directly dealing with the motto "In God We Trust", but it has been noted in several of the major cases involving the First Amendment's ban on "establishment of religion" (such as County of Allegheny v. American Civil Liberties Union, Greater Pittsburgh Chapter, 492 U.S. 573 [1989]) that the Court has indirectly found the motto to be permissible on multiple occasions.

Considering the makeup of the current court, whether or not Judge Sotomayor is confirmed, I would estimate the chances of a successful challenge as somewhat smaller than the chance that the 13th Amendment will be repealed and slavery restored.

I am sure people have already challanged it, claming separation of church and state.
I don't think it will be changed any time soon.
I work in a government office building in downtown Columbus, Ohio and right on the side of the Building (and most of the Countys websites ) is "with God, all things are possible"- Been there since the 1970's.

There are limits as to how far the liberals will tread.....

I fear we're getting a mite too political in this thread.
