    Laos KM# 6,5,4 50 cents , 20 cents, 10 cents. Nice aluminum set. First set after independent from France. Second set in 1980 , after all of the warfare, was valued in atts.

    Well looks like Ole Desert Gem is the closest. All Royal Lao coinage was made of aluminum in 1953. Shown above are 10/20/50 Kips as they were also called cents. The holes where put in as an afterthought so the design does not center around or include the hole. These were made in the Paris mint to replace the French colonial coinage as they got their Independence. I like the 20 kips best, they used to show up a lot in the 60's & 70's in Northern Thailand. The native gals would make jewelry out of them as is their custom, no Lao soldier would go into battle with these noisy things wrapped around a cord. But the true coinage of the area were silver,US Dollar, Thai Baht and opium. Traci

    These are common in unc but nice choice specimens are tougher.
