I need to check I few rolls I picked up from Apmex a few years ago (when they asked 0.01 over spot). Bought them for when my little boy is older and stashed them away never giving them a second thought.
Doesn't hurt to check. Betting they are fine. I did receive an order of war nickels from Goldeneaglecoin after I received my incorrect JM Bullion order and they were all fine. So, hoping the JM order was an anomaly and betting that most bullion dealers know what a war nickel is.[/QUOTE]
As an aside, it's now been a week since I talked to a rep at JM, where they admitted some of what I received were not war nickels, and that they would send me the twelve nickels that were not war nickels in my order, and further said I would receive email tracking once shipped. However, no emails at all so far, so, I finally just emailed them to try and figure out the status of my order. Was really hoping that their remedying their incorrect shipment would not be treated as a new order or something, and that it would hopefully be shipped out in a few days, or, at least that I would receive email confirmation that of my conversation and that they would be shipped...but nothing so far. I'm increasingly growing not impressed with JM's customer service...
I just went on their web site & noted 393 people rated their customer service @ 3 or below, as apposed to 2622 rating it @ 5. That's 14.98 % listing less than stellar ratings. Keep on them. Like the old folks say, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease".
Would be a bit of a stretch since we didn't get into the War until about the last two weeks of the year and most if not all of the 1941 nickels were probably struck by then.
As a final update, in case anyone is curious...finally got the war nickels that should have been sent to me initially from JM. JM messed up the follow-up to my incorrect order, again...but I finally got them...roughly two months after my order. After they said they would fix the order and then after never hearing back from them again and not receiving any emails/tracking verification that the rest of the order they said would would ship actually shipped, I called and a rep informed me the holdup was that they shipped, but they did not have my updated contact information, so USPS sent them back. So I immediately sent my current contact info same day, even though they already had it, and received a confirmation email that they received it. Then waited week or two, nothing. Called again, and this time the rep informed me they were never sent from the warehouse after being returned from USPS, for some reason. Then waited again, then finally got them last weekend. Makes we wonder if this was incompetence or stalling because they didn't have the items? Not a good experience with JM, unfortunately, especially given not only all that but given the initial denials from them that they even sent the wrong items in the first place, and their not knowing what constitutes a war nickel. I suppose everyone screws up now and again. I have ordered from JM in the past and did not encounter any of this. Don't know if this is an anomaly or what, but, just so people know...
But, if JM advertised them as 'war nickels' then there is no foul. '42 was a war year with two varieties of nickels.
1. No, it doesn't work that way. "War Nickel" is a term of art with a well-understood meaning. If you advertise "War Nickels" with the intent of selling non-silver 1942 nickels, or nickels from the Desert Storm era, you're committing fraud. 2. The sale listing actually said "Silver War Nickels".
I have dealt with JM Bullion for several years, but have only bought precious metals from them. I bought more frequently when you could get free shipping for orders over $99. However, a year or so ago, they changed the free shipping to orders over $199. So, I do not buy from them as much anymore. Always received what I ordered, well packaged, and in a timely manner. I will definitely purchase from them in the future.
I've ordered from them before with no issue as well. Like I said, I don't know if this is an anomaly or what, but it was a real pain. Everyone makes mistakes. It's just unfortunate when you point those mistakes out and then they don't listen and try to put one by you with some standard line they are reading off of some computer or something is my biggest thing...even the multiple follow-up mistakes on the shipping aside. If the price is right, I will given them another chance. That said, if something like that ever happens again with them, I'm done.
