I just got a job lot of coins which I cannot identify (I specialise in Chinese cash, which these ain't).

Three are obviously from the same country, but have different legends. Another has a thistle on the reverse which to me implies Scotland. The fifth may be Sassanian - i was told there would be one in the lot.

    Any help much appreciated.

The first three are rechenfennigs, coin counters from Renaissance era germany. The fourth is a Scottish bodle, I can't read the date but it should be somewhere in the late 1600's. The last one looks Kushano-Sassanian, but these are very ugly and tough to ID. :D

    Thanks Ardatirion.

Could you please expand a bit on rechenfennigs....I've never heard of them. Where should I look for more info?

    Cheers
