I am new to coin collecting but already know I am in it for the long haul. I have read that we are in the middle of a bull market for rare coins. My question is should I hold off, increase my knowledge, buy just a bit here and there to learn about numismatics, and then buy when there is a correction/bear market or would you say anytime is the time to buy great coins as long as you are willing to hold them for greater than 10 years or so - kind a like blue chip stocks:smile Thanks!
Anytime is a great time to begin to collect! Just make sure you look at many coins and read alot of books before making a substantial purchase.
Thanks. I've been enjoying going to the Heritage auction site, enlarging the photos, and studying those coins for luster, strike etc. I also test myself to see if I can come close to the actual grade. Are there other sites like this you can recommend that will help me learn about this great hobby? Thanks.
Cointalk, but you already found it. Do a search on guess the grade and also on counterfeits. At the top of the screen 3rd from the left. Coppercoins.com ( I think) is a good one for cents and their varieties and die states.
