Here it is. Please let me know your thought on a grade and value of this coin. Should I send this in to be graded?

Yes, DDO , Die #1. Congratulations. It looks to be Fine, here is a price guide from Lincoln Cent Resource, but check auction results.

I would have it certified as the color looks a little odd, but may be photos.

Thanks for they replies. Is this one very rare? I am thinking about putting it up for auction, or is this something I should hold onto?

It's a classic DDO. I would keep it myself as they are not that easy to find. If there are other coin interests you have then auction might work. But I would still get it certified.

I would not have it graded unless it will be sold, but that's just me.

I love it when someone finds "a good one" and this is "a good one" - one of the best ones!

If you are going to keep it just save documentation, photos etc. on it so anyone else would know it's a special - it's in every book ever written on doubled dies so that should not be too hard.

This is a pretty good grade also worth several hundred dollars.
It is extremely rare in mint state bringing multiples of thousands for one also.

Keep it, document it for your family and start looking for 1970-S DDO-001 or 1969-S DDO-001, with your luck you may just find it!

    One more thing,

I have never heard that this die was counterfeited so if you are just having it graded to authenticate you probably don't need to.
With the die state and grade you should be able to find die markers to authenticate it yourself.
They are: Die scratch between "TY" of LIBERTY. Obv. and "UM" of UNUM, Rev.

Jason, the photo is hosted on photobucket.com by the poster fishin4daze. Do you have it blocked by your firewall or browser?

here is the direct link you can click on and see if it comes up. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m4/Fishin4Daze/1917ddo.jpg

if it doesn't come up check your settings, if it does and not on post #1, I don't know :)
