I'm new to Coin Talk and seeking some input. I've a 1903 Indian and am curious how others would grade it or value it. Thanks for the assist..
Wow that is a really nice coin! I'm just a noobie but it looks like at least an MS63-65... maybe higher as I can't really see any major flaws in it and it has some nice toning as well, i'll say at least MS65. Would like to know what more educated folks think... Very nice though!
I am going with 63bn - not sure what the hit on the feather looks like in person or the rim tims 10 to 12. Looks nice in the pictures.
Sorry, but I must strongly disagree with the first two replies. That color is unnatural, and that of the reverse, in particular, indicates a cleaning. Even if it is uncirculated, it is not worth unc. money due to the cleaning.
There appears to be a small amount of wear on the curl beneath the ribbon as well as alongside it. I feel it would come back as an AU58. I am never sure of color when the coin is on a color background. If it was on a white or neutral gray background, I could tell for sure about the color. Sometimes the white balance is "default" as not changed by the user each time. Other than the reverse color, I don't see physical surface remains of a cleaning. Jim
I agree with Mark. Unc. details at best, but unless your pictures are off (which is possible), I would say it was cleaned.
revised photos I've reshot the photos on a white bground. The lighting is supposed to be a daylight desklamp but the temp is shifting green. Hope this helps Thank you again for the input!!!! "RE-revised the shots". This should be pretty close...
Explanation. The shots above shifted green-blue under my lighting. I went ahead and adjust the temp as closely as I could on the "white" background..
It's been cleaned - blue and green of that appearance are not natural colors for a bronze cent - sorry.
I would have to say AU58 , as for cleaning I don't believe it was. I don't see any scratched but my opinion could change if I was to hold the piece in my hand and examine it for myself. The coloring on the revers is kinda funky but is that due to cleaning ... not sure.
I agree with Weyron: So just send it to me for awhile and I will let you know :whistle: hya:hya: All kidding aside. Nice looking coin. I would say AU58 all day and maybe MS-60 on a good day. I also do not see the cleaning. Very hard to get the color right. I notice that your white background is also blue
My ihp Regarding the color shift, the lighting is mixed dependoing on time of day. I had been using auto white balance on a Nikon D300 with a 60mm macro. I have since been trying to adjust the temp (kelvin) manually to keep the color as close as possible. I'm looking for the best aperture possible for depth of field but some of my shutter speeds are getting down arount 1/10-1/5 second. Not sure if digital responds to reciprocity failure as did film. I can't imagine it does but I've been wrong about lots of other things before. To all who have replied "YOU'RE AWESOME"! I really do appreciate the time and interest you've shown the coin. I have several others I'd thought about posting but I didn't want to bother anyone... Maybe my new problem child, the 1846 Coronet Cent I picked up the other day...
