Pogs in the sense of military exchange "change" have been around for a long time, but the name is believed to have originated in Hawaii early in the 20th Century from POG, a brand of juice made from passionfruit, orange and guava. POG bottle caps (the old milk bottle style paper caps, not the metal Coke bottle type) were used to play a kids game.

Much later the game was commercialized, and companies like Knotts Berry Farm issued sets, which (mostly) middle school aged kids collected and traded. There were even national and international tournaments in the 1990s.

Both the game-type and the PX-type pogs are collected as exonumia.

I really don't have any pogs, The only one I got was a 2001 Little League Pin from the local ball fields.
