Hi all , can anyone try and help out on this cent I got in 2009 proof clad set. on back of professional life in ILLINOIS, ON Lincolns arm on right of coin it show something that looks like a error, below his shirt cuff.looks like a mint error like a pair of of small scissor coming down from cuff, has anyone else that got clad proof set seen this? Tried to take best picture I could, not easy with plastic case in way plus my old eyes not what they use to be. I hate to bust this case open to get a better look as I like to keep this set the way it is. thank to all on any help on this. Will check back In morning as it's almost 4 am here and need my sleep, this getting old can't stay up late like I use to when I was A young lad to be young again and know what I know now lol, don't know if that's good or not dd: carl
Carl, We will try to help you with the coin! However, we need a more close-up and in-focus picture of the coin. Maybe you could get a picture of the area in question as well! Frank
Hi Carl, I received my silver proof set yesterday and I do not see anything unusual on my cent. I will post a picture for comparison later.
Better pictures on 2009 coin proof Hi again hope pictures are better then last one I posted, At first I thought error on cuff could be a lint inside plastic, but looking more close at plastic set looks like scissors, and is part of coin, maybe Lincoln was getting fitted for a new suit at time. :rolling: But getting back to this coin what do you people think what this could be or happen at the USMINT? Thanks from all on any input on this. Carl
Carl, Is the thingy hanging off Lincoln's cuff, incuse or in relief? I can't really tell from the pics, even after copying and pasting them to my' PC, cropping them and manipulating the brightness and contrast! If it is incuse, then it may be a "Struck Thru" lint or other debris. If it is in relief, then it may be a Die Crack but due to the darkness of the item, I would more suspect slag (dirty grease or other foreign material stuck to the coin but not struck into it). I have included two cropped and edited pics and maybe someone else can tell what it is! Frank
Thanks everyone for help on this Well I got brave and pop open the plastic case to take a better look at this coin, and was some foreign material stuck to it, so much for that once in a life time million dollar coin :goofer: Used small can of compress air on coin and what I thought was a a cool error was someones lunch crumbs from worker at mint. You know I haven't been buying from US MINT for a long time but there QC dept there is real bad, You think for what we pay for these coins they take more care on how they make them and pack them. thanks to all on all your help. huntsman53 you got a good eye was what you thought (foreign material stuck to the coin but not struck into it) Hats off to you. Carl.
LOL! Although I believed that there was something sitting on top of the surface of the coin, my assessment was really just a shot in the dark. Frank
